skunked

The smallish list of .mobi names surprised me a bit. And only about six of them pertain to the financial sector.

BankGroup.mobi $1 - $5,000
BondRate.mobi No Reserve
mortgages.mobi $10,001 - $25,000
pay.mobi $100,000 - $250,000
sale.mobi $50,001 - $100,000
STOCKQUOTE.MOBI $5,001 - $10,000

With the advertised focus of the NYC venue to include introducing Madison Avenue and Wall Street to domains, I thought that there would be a much greater focus on financial names. I submitted about twenty investment-related .mobi generic terms (LBO, eurodollar, dividend, inflation, lien, arbitrage, etc.) and got skunked this time. The upside is that hopefully they will appreciate in value between now and the next time around.

Best wishes to those of you with names in the June auctions.

Just a quick question guys.

How do you submit your domain names to be included or considered in these auctions? I'm sure there's a thread here somewhere that says how.

I think I read earlier in the thread that a future one will be for Adult names, and I'm keen on submitting for that one (my best ones are bigbum.mobi & wellhung.mobi).

Also, who decides on which reserve category to list in, them or you?

Cheers.

The TRAFFIC auctions are run by Moniker. Go to their site and you can find information about how to submit names. Moniker also runs the InterNext auctions, which are adult related and perhaps better suited for the two mobis you listed above. You get to decide the reserve, but as a general rule, the lower the reserve, the better chance the domain has of making it to the auction.

Good luck,

MM

Wanted to comment on your signature ...

"A generic in the hand is worth two brandables in the bush."

That's quite creative. I like it. One might even increase that ratio 1:100, :tu:

I received a contract as well, but it did not specify for which domain(s).
Did yours mention your domain, or did you only submit one?

I got a contract at the same time as I submitted my domains, not on selection to be in the auction :(

Thanks, it's one of my core domaining beliefs. Ad agencies or marketing guys can often pull "brandable" names out of thin air and get them for reg fee, while the generic terms they have to buy. A consumer can't always remember a company's name even if the commercial or ad where they saw the product or service is top notch. But they always KNOW "generically" what it is that they want. I can see by your sig that you also realize that straight-to-the-point generic names are a smart way to go. Very nice geos Carlton.

"Disaster" is a bit harsh. But I think there is always room to improve upon the procedure and structure of a venue.

A lot of suggestions were posted on these boards after the last March auctions. I liked the suggestion of being able to optionally set two different reserve prices when the names are submitted - one for the live auction and one for the silent auction.

It's their auction, they know more about running it than any of us individually, but savvy businesses realize that "customers" can provide some very valuable input if a "company" just chooses to listen.
