.mobi Mobi reaches milestone

Since Feb I have been doing google searches once a week or so on mobi. Today marks the first time more than 30 million hits came back. While all the sites are not .mobi related I have watched it steadily climb from just over 11 million when I began through the teens then the 20's. Anyway, my own personal evidence that mobi is catching on.

I wasnt trying to detect the number of mobi pages, I wanted to see how much mobi was being discussed regardless of whether or not sites were developed so I simply did a google key word search on "mobi"

Not really a "milestone", IMHO ... but if you go to Google and then search site:.mobi you'll get "about 2,470,000" search results (not "hits"). Of these, of course, many MANY are still not developed ... though keeping an eye on those that do become developed (and thus adding to the critical "ecosystem") may perhaps a better gauge, going forward, as to whether .MOBI is catching on, or not, IMHO. :blink:

He was not searching for developed sites.. he was searching for how many times some one posted or mentioned the word 'mobi'.

There is good news in 30 million mentions of the word mobi weather they are developed sites or not. Its becomming a well known word and that is just as important at this stage of the game. So yes.. IMO, its a milestone.

Disagree, as it's not a word ... the "branding" of the .MOBI extension is only as good as the developed .MOBI websites - the very necessary "ecosystem", if you will - it represents, IMHO. :yell:

ya know Jeff I have about had it up to here with this kind of crap. The point of the post was that mobi is being discussed, I am not an idiot and I know how to look for mobi pages. Perhaps you can explain to me why mobi mentions on google have gone from 11 million to 30 million in the last 8 months if people aren't talking about mobi. Perhaps there have been 19 million new mentions of what a terrible idea mobi is but I kind of doubt it. If you dont have anything productive to add just leave it alone. One part of me is convinced that your main goal is to drive down the price of mobis on the aftermarket on this site and have been secretly stashing them. On the other hand some people get addicted to the strangest things on the internet and maybe you, for reasons beyond your control, have become addicted to posting drivel on a forum in which you have no vested interest.

The OP made a valid point -- .mobi is becoming more mainstream. That's a fact, not something to be argued with. All .mobi enthusiasts are interested in this kind of information and there's no reason to attack such a comment. Let's not let our opinions on .mobi affect our judgement or analysis of facts.
