What is going on in the .mobi Marketplace?

If you look at some of the most recent threads there appear to be some "interesting" transactions. Poor Allan Shore seems to have his hands full.

People listing names for auction, then trying to "pull them off the block"

Names that were "sold" at rediculous BIN prices when it seemed like the seller was not happy with how the auction was going, etc.

I wonder if this is because of the large number of newbies that seem to be on the boards if there is some market manipulation going on?

I'm not really following this. Can you refer to a specific transaction?

There are three threads involving .MOBI auctions that have been reported for different reasons, but I think it's premature to assume there is some larger conspiracy going on.

I don't follow? Are you saying that they are selling to low, too high, or too low for the sellers pleasure?

Thanks.

I should have been more specific. I did not mean the actual "Marketplace" here. I meant the Marketplace in general. The threads I was referring to are in the "Auction" section.

RJ - Glad I wasn't the one to use the "c" word.

One seller canceled his auction two days before the end time. (Not necessarily a violation.)

Another seller had two buy-it-now offers in his auction, and chose the second one because of his trader rating. (Being addressed by Allan)

A third auction ended up in a mess when the seller confused himself about time zones, leaving him with two possible winning bidders. (Being addressed by -db-)

I'm saying that it seems like some of the .mobi sellers are either not following through with their transactions for various reasons.

It may be because they do not like the prices they are receiving, it may be because they are just testing the marketplace, but the reason does not matter.

What is important is that it may be a sign that the market for .mobi's (at least here) is being somewhat manipulated.

I will check the whois on the names in question (one specifically) in the next 7-10 days I will be curious if it changed hands.

Not sure what the OP is talking about but I have noticed one trend starting. People are posting "outside links" to domain auctions in the market place. Is this legit? Or do they, no matter what ext, belong in the proper forum?

Thanks, dont mean to crash just an observation of mine.

^That covers it^

beat asu - Those type scenarios happen on a fairly regular basis (and not exclusive to .Mobi) but you just don't normally see them, because our staff is so good at getting the situations resolved before they get out of hand. :)

seems like a lot of drama... but at least something good came out of all of this: I just found another part of this site to enjoy ;)

^ Agreed 100%! :gl: :bingo:

In addition, ManicGirl's Auctions Forum Sticky entitled Acceptable Forum Auction Techniques should serve as a reminder to all of the high level of expectations of professional conduct in the Marketplace Auctions - .MOBI or otherwise, IMHO. :talk:

Happy Holidays, friends! :santa:
