This will be brief as I'm heading to work...
1) Give MOBI time.
The positioning of this domain extension is to fulfill a need on the mobile front.
Consumers are barely using their mobile phones for web surfing. This will happen over the next 2-5 years.
MTLD has not yet released their absolute best names. This will happen over the next 2-3 years.
2) Watch what happens with outstanding MOBI names in the aftermarket.
Many of us focused on 1 and 2 word keyword, generic terms. Some went ot the more branded/brand oriented route.
Generic terms will sell very nicely, and will continue to sell... as the high end MOBI speculation is a long-term hold.
3) Stop with the technology argument.
This is simple. MOBI is the first to marketplace. MOBI has and will demonstrate significant money flowing into the extension. MOBI will have some development. MOBI is an outstanding keyword in itself. It is likely to be adopted by end consumer - over the long, long road.
4) Keystrokes is a ridiculous argument.
Why doesn't someone come up with a rotary dial argument? I'm sure 40 years ago, people would be talking about the 4 shifts of the rotary dial vs 3... The keypad on a phone as we know it is transforming.
5) Today's mobile technology is in transition.
There is not 1 significantly great mobile phone on the market as of yet. Blackjack looks good, but I haven't seen the web surfing on it. Blackberry, in my opinion, is a flaming terd for websurfing.
Do you really believe that this will be the case in 5 years? 10 years?
Give it time.
