where is the value of ".MOBI"

In technology platum, there is no any difference between .mobi and .com (.net, .biz, .info...).

where is the value exist of MOBI? It seems there is no extra value of ".mobi"

But, I think ".mobi" is as important as ".com"

Reason One:
".mobi" is ".mobi", it is worldly accepted for wireless internet, for mobile device or hand device.

Reason Two:
In nature, the mobile device is easier and much convient to surf the internet. You can make business anywhere, anytime, without a notebook with a line on the tabel as my doing now. So, there is lots of business chanced embeded in ".mobi", waiting to be found and developed.

Reason Three:
Right, you can go to ".com" by your mobile handset and so on. But, there is a big problem: the website is not for your mobile hanset, but for PC liked device. I test several my .mobi which direct to my company website....Oh... the web pages are too large. So, it is a good idea to set a ".mobi" site by ".com" for mobile handset to log on the website.

Reason Four:
".mobi" is pushed by several big companies alliance as business case, from the software, the interent, the telecommunication infrastructure manufacturer, the standard alliance, .... It is different for several other .domains such as ".net, .biz, .info...." and so on. Everyone shall know, best goods need best sale. In business cases, the promotion for goods is also very important. Now, I wish these companies can take more efforts for ".mobi" and there is a successful result for ".mobi" but a joke in future. However, we have to take risk at present.

Reason Five:
The IP address is a kind scare resource. Current IPv4 address is not enough for tomorrow. IPv6 will come to our life in later 2~4 years, as my thought. I have joined the IPv6 summit conference four years before. You can image, when there are so huge device having a IPv6 address, how to localize them? ".mobi"'s time is very approiate for 3G wideband wireless communication and IPv6 time. So, there is a big chance in front of the ".mobi". However, let's wait and see.

Reason Six:
The process of ".mobi" development is something like ".com", which happend as ten years ago. 10+ years before, the PC price is so high that ordinary person can not offer it, unless the internet. But, now, PC is just ordinary utility for everyday things for almost everyone. Utrafunction handset, will come to everyone side in later 2~4~6 years. I have been R&D staff of a famouse semiconductor company. The price for mobile handset and chipsets become low and low... So, you can image, ".mobi" will become ".com", maybe surpass ".com".

Reason Seven:
".mobi" is a fresh baby which is just born. There is so huge unique space prepared for ".mobi". You can not exactly image the development of ".mobi". To my mind, if work very well, ".mobi" will be a huge success in wireless time. Google is so smart that it is a part of the background of ".mobi". For high-technolgoy companies, who catch the "wideband wireless", who will win and exsit in later 10~20 years. Orelse, it will be hard to make competition in later years.

You make a very good case for the future of .mobi. The development will take time and investors must be patient.

The bottom line is that there is a need for a common extension with standardized requirements for mobile access.

Imo, the value of premium .mobi is in a similar place to .info right now. However, that value is clearly being driven by domainers. I believe the .mobi speculation craze will die down as the rest of the dictionary words are registered and we'll see the value akin to .biz in a year or 2.

At this point I have yet to see any convincing proof that these 'backers' are making any real effort to carve out a mainstream path for .mobi. As good an idea as .mobi may be in theory, unless there is actual mass application through developed sites, we may never see the value rise.
