.tv Microsoft.tv & Google.tv

Did anyone see this? Google.tv forwards to Google.com and Microsoft.tv goes to an actual Microsoft page! Please excuse me if this has been discussed in another thread.

There is a clear trend on the Telecommunication market to integrate services like TV on internet , so i'm not surprised ...

At first, I thought you had registered the names google.tv and microsoft.tv

I am very glad that wasnt the case.
I am sure that in years to come, Microsoft.tv will be a site of its own. Who knows - maybe even Google.tv might be a search engine dedicated to the searching of tv, video media, etc.

I still think when these companies expand, they will use their .com domains and subdomains.
unfortunately, not everyone thinks like we do. so a tv directory for google would probably end up like googletv.com or gtv.com etcc..or tv.google.com (just examples).
They register and redirect their .tv domains to protect them IMHO. just like many large companies do with .us etc...

Yes I know about google.tv before.
In fact yahoo has tv.yahoo.com not yahoo.tv, it goes to some page not found on yahoo..

If you keep trying different company names with tv you keep finding more. I just tried apple.tv and it goes to Quicktime media player.

IMOH, I do not think that MS and Google would be worried about a cybersqatter taking Microsoft.tv and Google.tv respectively, because the could take the name from the squatter in a heartbeat if regged by someone other than them. If I remember correctly on a NP thread Microsoft.us was sitting available to reg. If MS was worried they would have regged it, right? Well, this is just my opinion.
