I'm not sure if this the section to ask this , but I'll ask anyway

I'm looking to create many mini sites for specific niches.

Is it best to use Wordpress to create them and install a SEO plugin ? or

Standard XHTML/PHP sites and SEO manually ?

Which would be better indexed by search engines ?

thanks

Wordpress is the easiest platform to use to create quick sites IMO, and they have an awesome selection of free plugin's to go with it, including the SEO plugin you mentioned....

You could also look at outsourcing your sites for mini-site creation, search in this forum and you'll find companies that do this...

Hi Nssan,

I have used several different methods of creating mini sites including WP, Joomla, Typepad, and Noomle. As far as ease of use, days to search ranking, and PR, I would have to say Noomle has been superior for me personally. I have many sites that get indexed in days and rank in the first page of their keyword in two weeks. I have also received high PR's from these sites. Just check out my sig for some examples of Noomle sites. MMA Chicago is a more recent one.

I also use WP and Typepad for some sites but for mass developement of quality mini sites I use Noomle.

There are many scripts that you can use to build mini sites (like video sites for a given
niche that take the videos from YouTube, etc). There are many alternatives. You can
take a look at hotscripts.com or similar sites. Good Luck.

Good sites. I think some diversity is really good because sometimes things can change quickly, and a particular company can slip for a while, and others jump up. Those are nice looking sites though.

Virtually everything that I have that moves past the parking page, unless it is a "purpose-driven" domain (ie. one where the domain itself is only strong in the context of a complementing idea) gets the same basic treatment: static XHTML site built around the main keywords, and the Google related/Google Suggest terms. Simple, cheap, easy to port to a buyer, gets indexed and gets traffic.

Wordpress, as I want to keep most of my sites for the longer term. Ranks great, quick to make beautiful sites (that look more substantial than cookie cutter systems) and as you alter them, you gain a set of skills and hence another income stream. Great for later adding forums, shopping carts, etc etc.

Soggyindo,

Your Healing Mediation site is very, very nice. I haven't ever used wordpress. What does it cost you to host that site? How difficult to get started with WP?

Can't get over that site - it really looks good! Seems like the video content will help, and I like the recommended book!

Any suggestions to get started with a new WP site?

Regards,

Stan

I think Noomle is the best for mini-sites. Why pay for hosting and spend all that time on developing when there are already systems out there that will do it for you?

Of course, this recommendation comes under the assumption that you have good domains to back it up.

Thanks to the OP for starting this interesting discussion and to those who suggest Noomle. I've heard of it, but never checked it out thoroughly. We use primarily WordPress (and sometimes Drupal / Joomla) to build mini sites.

Cheers,

Rob

I'm looking to build a bunch of mini sites atrgeting real estate queries, i was going to use WordPress, but there's been some good press on here about Noomle too.

I don't know much about Noomle, do they provide free hosting?

Can someone give me some pro's/cons for WP vs Noomle?

Wordpress

I'd suggest Wordpress but it depends on how you'll be making money from the website long term.

Your SEO efforts might not change depending on your revenue source but your design would. Install proper plug in (sitemap and SEO plugin are essential).

If you are using Adsense to make money pick a Wordpress template that has some Adsense hotspots in the design.

If you are looking to promote products or sell some service something with a "nicer" look (custom photo header etc) would be more important than Adsense placement.

Good luck.

Hi Stan,
thanks! that's always nice to hear. actually i was thinking of giving healingmeditation.net an overhaul - will let you know if i do.

that's the great thing about wordpress - it can replicate just about any site you like, and it's easy to swap the 'look' with different themes (leaving all your content intact).

working with wordpress is an incremental thing - it's pretty easy to get something basic up, and it's a constant education to improve what you can do. hosting is about $70 a year, but that's for unlimited sites.

i'm posting all the things i learn or use at iinky.com - and you can also order sites like healing meditation made for for about $199 there, if you don't want to do it all yourself. which i figure is cheap - a good mini site should bring in about $25 a week once filled out - and then upwards from there if the content is good enough.

;)

Personally, I recommend wordpress for mini-sites creation. Why ?
1.You know matt cutts - the googler says wordpress is the most optimised platform seo-wise.
2. Changing the look, design and outlook is the easiest with lots of themes available.
3. Ads placement is neat and more efficient.
4. No coding knowledge required.
5. Not Time-consuming. Just works.
6. If you are on cpanel host, just use fantastico to install wordpress in a few seconds.
7. with wordpress, your minisite would look clean, neat, themed, easily customizable, efficient and high ranking.
Plugins like all in seo, xml sitemap, contact form - are must on every wordpress site.
Sidebar in themes adds to your website look.
If you could write atleast 2 or 3 unique articles on your domain, this would add to the overall values.
I also provide such wordpress minisite creation service. one with unique content and another with copy-pasted content alongwith webhosting service for your entire portfolio of domains suiting your requirement with price tag ranging from 50 $ to 500 $..

I use both Joomla! and Wordpress
With the template design software I use, I can output the same design template/theme for Both Joomla or wordpress. So selecting a great looking design is not a problem. I find clients prefer wordpress sites to NOT look like every other Blog. Joomla minisites are my preferred option. I produce 10 joomla minisites for every WP minisite I am requested to do.

Format change to HealingMeditation.net I said I would post - works much better with a limited amount of information, IMO.

I find that's the hardest thing when you are running dozens of sites - making each look like it is well used, and having enough information for people to come back to... without paying for crappy content or (worse) running scripts. What do other people do?

Soggyindo,

That is even better. The site looks very inviting - nice colors, information blends well with the images - very nice.

Makes me jealous though. I don't have much spare time these days and that really is professional!

After having developed literally hundreds of mini sites, I must say hands down that Wordpress is the best if you've got over 10 domains to work with. I can install 100 wordpress mini sites in a matter of minutes with some of my tools, and get them their own weekly fresh content in about the same amount of time. And they ALL get indexed within a week.
