Macs are way overrated...a rant

I just lost a page I spent a half hour building on a website because Firefox crashed again on my Mac. I've lost work the same way on Word for Mac. I've come to the conclusion that this is Apple's way of pushing me towards Apple software. I have had way more crashes and hangs on Mac than I've ever had on Windows.

Guys, don't believe the hype. As a second computer, I can live with a Mac. But working on a Mac alone would drive me out of business.

I mean, Mac is famous for being user friendly, right? So why are the headphone jacks, on/off button, and all USB ports behind the computer?? That nice sleek look on the front of an iMac is possible only because they force you to dig around behind the computer to do something as simple as turning it on.

Yes, it's not as vulnerable to viruses as Windows. Great. But with operating systems like OX to torture you, who needs viruses?

Yes, this is a rant. After years of resisting, I finally gave Macs another try. They still suck. But I didn't have the heart to start rewriting all my work until I let off some steam.

Now I have to go back to work on a computer I can trust. My older Toshiba laptop - which I am using now while my pretty little iMac just stares at me like some useless trophy wife that looks great but is a pain in the ass in every other way.

Edit - I love Wordpress, though. Especially their autosave funtion:)

I agree, I'm getting a HP laptop on Saturday. Macs are way overrated. We had friends with Macs, and after 18 months a part was dying, and when they rang the Apple store, they were told, "Apple doesn't make parts for antique computers"

Mac hater, here too!

That's it, isn't it? When I tell my Mac-loving friends about the crashes, they always say "Well, why don't you use the Mac software for mail, etc. I never have any problems."

If I start using Mac apps for my mail and all my work, I will become dependent on Mac, and its 6-month product lifestyle, its restrictions to keep you in the Mac and away from evil things like Flash, etc etc.

I started with Mac, and remember that 2 years old was ancient in Macs. I also remember they crashed all the time. Yet at the time, everyone only spoke about how Windows crashed all the time. Now I realize it was because everyone had Windows. When I got my first Windows computer, I was surprised at how stable it was. In the years since, I was told how Mac is much better now... a beautiful machine.

When you rely on Mac and its apps, and the apps suck, there's nothing you can do except go on a Mac forum and cry with all the other suckers about how cruel Apple is in ignoring your despair.

With Windows, if the app sucks, a developer will come out with a better app in a week. I don't have to wait for MS to do something.

I thought I like iMovie, until I tried to save my project. In Apple's genius, they decided that "save" buttons were obsolete. The app will instead save "for you." Except that sometimes it doesn't, and you lose everything you've been working on all day. And even when it does save, they make it near impossible to choose a different save location. If you manage to find the saved file and move it manually, it can be permanently corrupted. Again, all to keep you from moving it to a Windows app.

No way I'm ever going to get suckered into an iPhone. Android or Blackberry for me, thanks.

I have never owned an Apple product and plan to keep it that way.

Well my opinion of Apple products are well.. they are overpriced but I have to admit that the quality is good.

What do you mean about quality?

Well, if you just open up a terminal (sorry, Terminal.app (stupid superfluous file extension)) and use it just like any other UNIX system they're pretty nice :)

Of course, if you use them like that it doesn't matter that much if you're on GNU/Liux, OS X, Hurd, BSD...
