I am looking to purchase a particular proper name .com domain (2 names) and the current owner seems to have a page not updated in a few years. The .net, .org, etc. are available, but I really would like the .com. The whois info is with GoDaddy, so I can't contact the owner directly.

Suggestions? I'd love to make an offer on the domain, but wondered what advice the board could give me on making it happen.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
Who.is gives (some) registration history for free.
Maybe the owner's name is visible, from before they got privacy.

Are you stating that the domain has privacy protection? You checked the who is information directly at who.godaddy.com, obtained the DomainsbyProxy email address, emailed this address and received a bounceback? If so, complain to GoDaddy to fix the forwarding issue. If you simply did not receive a response to your inquiry then perhaps the owner is not interested in selling.

I apologize if I am misunderstanding. Why can't you contact the owner?

It might be that the domain is expired and in redemption period or pending delete state. In such case the contact id is godaddy's email id.
But IDK.

If you send an e-mail to the privacy e-mail, it will most likely be forwarded to the domain owner. If that doesn't work, try searching for the domain on Google and domain marketplaces like Sedo, Flippa and Bido where it might be listed. If that doesn't work either, you can try domainagents.com, I believe this is an area they specialize in.

Thank you so much for the help. I checked again and it wasn't GoDaddy, it was with 1&1. I did an initial whois and found they were the listing under a privacy domain (I believe). So what I am hearing you guys say is that I should go ahead and contact the 1&1 info and they should forward it on to the owner. Otherwise, I may look into domainagents as domainbartender mentioned. Any other suggestions are welcome.

I should add, I did find an email for the owner that I think still works through the website itself, but it hasn't been updated in so long I did this by searching a bit. Perhaps I will try them first.

If the email is visible on the website try that first if it bounces and you get that it cannot be delivered try with whois privacy email - usually those privacy emails have a unique prefix ( what is before @ privacy ) so they will be forwarded to the email of the owner. Some privacy services work on the principle that you must visit the privacy service website and input the domain you are interested in and send message via their website. Good luck and I hope you get the domain you are after.
