I get the feeling that everyone is starting to use 3character.com as a guide for the maximum amount they should pay for LLL domains.
I don't see many people willing to pay even $100 for a decent LLL.us. Did one sale at $90 bring down the value of LLL.us?

Dot COM is king, no doubt about that. Critically important to global commerce. The USA cannot expect to control the GTLDs indefinitely which will make .US more revelant at home.

WORLD: "You have a country code same as we do, go use it."

Could be a long wait though, so feel free to dump good names cheap in the meantime.

I think the decrease has just been a result of over speculation by domain resellers. For a period they were selling for more than they were worth, I think it has found it's price and will continue to grow, as the other LLL.(gTLD)'s have done.

I agree with Peter. Over speculation by a select few. This only happens in low liquidity markets where a few people can effect the generic prices for everyone. I think the trend of increased sales (especially end-users) will only lead to increased saturation, greater liquidity, and a healthier .us market overall.

Personally, I am still in LLL.us buying mode whenever I have free cash.

Yes, but once the market starts going downhill a little bit, 3character.com doesn't help the cause.

For instance, minimum sale level on 3C is $120. Then a few domains sell for $105. 3C lowers the price to $105. Some more bad letter combos sell for $90. Everyone sees that 3C has the price at $90, so that must be what LLL.us is worth. Good letter combos may make it over $90, but honestly, nobody was ever going to pay $120 for qxz.us, and now they'll be going under "minimum value" just like the were before.

Sure -- easy to have values collapse when the market is primarily composed of speculators. The values will keep on spiraling as long as people are willing to sell for less and less. Occasional price correction in an overpriced market is all part of the system. In the end, things should end up more robust and realistic than before.

The sale was here at NP. I think the value has just dropped off for a bit, maybe due to oversaturation or other reasons. But I think eventually it will be on the rise again and now is probably a smart time to buy, especially as asia and other countries start using the internet more, america might start using its CC to single itself out because an increasing number of site will be from other countries, not just targetted at the US. Just my 2c

I was the one that sold those. Don't let my sale give you the wrong idea - no one likes LLL.US more than me. I still have over 1,000 of them (that are only being sold to end users). I wanted to sell these other names very quickly, and required a minimum purchase of 100 at a time, so I thought $45 was a fair price. I wouldn't let the "low" price of these names affect your opinion of .US in any way. Big discounts are the norm when you buy in bulk. I bought these names mostly in blocks of 100-200 and paid an average of about $12-14 for them (at the time non-premium LLL.US were selling for about $20-25).

I don't think it's so much value has dropped off as it is people are holding on to them. It took a major leap in price and I think the market is cooling itself to correct for a bit. I think a lot of people are holding on to them in anticipation of another jump in the future.

In the stock market, the smart time to buy is when a quality stock hits hard times and there's a selloff, but you believe in the stock over the long term.

Whether or not that applies to LLL.us each person needs to decide for themselves.

If you have a stock sitting a huge profit that could go down it is also common to sell a portion of your holdings to lock in some profit and keep the rest, that is what happened with the big sale recently.

I use to want the LLL.us domains, i got rid of them last summer before .mobi starting coming out. I agree with some of the posts above, with the value of the .us coming down, I'd try and find the deals and hold on to them for the future.
