I get the feeling that everyone is starting to use 3character.com as a guide for the maximum amount they should pay for LLL domains.
I don't see many people willing to pay even $100 for a decent LLL.us. Did one sale at $90 bring down the value of LLL.us?

I don't think it's so much value has dropped off as it is people are holding on to them. It took a major leap in price and I think the market is cooling itself to correct for a bit. I think a lot of people are holding on to them in anticipation of another jump in the future.

From a buyers standpoint, they can continue to drop.

From a holder's and seller's stand point...that sucks.

Just like the stock market, there is a time to buy, sell, and hold.

In the stock market, the smart time to buy is when a quality stock hits hard times and there's a selloff, but you believe in the stock over the long term.

Whether or not that applies to LLL.us each person needs to decide for themselves.

If you have a stock sitting a huge profit that could go down it is also common to sell a portion of your holdings to lock in some profit and keep the rest, that is what happened with the big sale recently.

I use to want the LLL.us domains, i got rid of them last summer before .mobi starting coming out. I agree with some of the posts above, with the value of the .us coming down, I'd try and find the deals and hold on to them for the future.

so true......so true. Continue to HOLD & you will be pleased in the long run...

What some people don't seem to realize is that the only values that are going down are practically meaningless reseller values (unless you're a reseller just trying to scalp $20 or $30 here and there, in which case it's not meaningless to you I guess). The prices that I and others are selling LLL.US to end users for is definitely not going down, I can assure you of that.

One more thought here: LLL.us is a good alternative to the .COM version for local businesses not aimed at a global market, so end user prices have to be kept reasonable for .US to sell.

As even "low quality" LLL.com sale prices go through the roof, it leaves more room for LLL.us to grow and still be competitive.

Keep an eye on this thread for years to come. LLL.us are not going away and people will be kicking themselves for not buying more now when prices were cheap. I just had a $x,xxx offer on another one of my LLL.us about two weeks ago.

Pat, I'm depressed I didn't get in on your sale, but I was out of town. Congrats to all who purchased and to you for your sales.

Since you have apparently been the largest LLL.us holder for a while, with more than 2,000 of them (before your recent bulk sale), I'd love to hear any aggregate stats you are willing to share about these sales. I suppose my top questions would be:

1) How many LLL.us have you sold to end users this year?
2) How many did you sell last year?
3) What price ranges do these sales fall into?

I'm a big fan of the TLD, but end user interest in my .us names has been quite scarce! Almost as scarce as my .us parking revenue :).

Thanks!

That was my point.

It's been buying time for LLL.us in the past three months. I'm actually surprised prices haven't gone up rather than down for the poorest lettered LLL.us. I'm guessing it will take another round of renewals to get prices back up across the board.

It almost seems cyclic. Last spring, early summer we saw prices at a reasonable level rising throughout summer and going into fall with what appeared to be a steady median pricing in the $125-$150 range. If things stay within that range then that is not a bad thing vs a steep drop. With an influx of domains on the market place sometimes the market responds with a downward bump.

If you believe in the future of dot us, do invest in LLL.us. But the past sales are quite dismal. Following are all the reported sale on afternic:

Typical sale price is only a couple of hundred. With minimum parking return, I don't think LLL.us is a good current investment. Again, if you believe in long term future of this ccTLD, you need to prepare to lose money on the portfolio for the near future.

Good luck.

No offense but your post is laughable. That data is meaningless.

care to elaborate? It may not be all the sales data, but it gives a starting point.

While I'm curious why the largest holder of LLL.us found the sale data "laughable" and "meaningless", I do appreciate the data's posting. I found the information quite useful and interesting.

I'll try to post a new list of the largest LLL.us holders in the next day or two. Thanks to jugusa for the NP$ donation.

The reason the data is laughable is because very few end users will ever buy off of afternic. Furthermore, as the registrant of AFL.us, there is no way I would ever let the domain go for the price it did in 2003. Just about any of the domains listed on afternic in the above post would go for over $1k to an end user.
