Hi,

A domain name I own was accepted for listing at GreatDomains.com. In their email they suggested an asking price as well as a reserve price. As I find it hard to appraise the name myself, is it wise to go along with their appraisal? Or would it be good in these cases to get a second opinion somewhere else and 'bargain' about the price before submitting the name? Thanks in advance for your info!

Now list at sedo and afternic. I don't think great domains has sold anything for years.

If you want an appraisal better ask here (apprasail board), is cheapest and same service IMHO.

Lynch, the price and reserve they give you is negotiable if you feel it is worth more. I have asked for a higher sell price and reserve in the past and they have agreed, however, sometimes they do not agree and then it is up to you whether you want to go ahead and list or not. You can list at other places while being listed at GD. Do not hold your breath for your name to sell on GD. If you look at the www.dnjournal.com you will see most sales are occuring elsewhere. Having a name on GD is just some extra exposure in my opinion, and hell you might get lucky. Good luck.

I agree with SKG. It doesn't hurt at all to have extra exposure for your domain, just make sure you're comfortable with the listing prices, because after you sign the contract, they have the right to sell your name for the reserve price without contacting you first.
Also, like SKG said, it doesn't hurt to try to negotiate a higher listing price, all they can say is "No", if they don't want to go higher. You'll still be able to list at their suggested price.
Great Domains had a few sells last year, I believe, but they are few and far between. When they do sell though, it's usually for a good chunk of cash.

My (often repeated) .02:

Realize that the published price for GreatDomains listed domains have a reserve about 40% below the listing (typically). So you do tip your hat, if the name really is that good, as to your lowest acceptable price.
