I was wondering what the best way was to set up a internet business legally?. Most major affiliate companies these days require a SS# or Tax ID, since I dont want to give my SS #, my next option is to set up a legal business.

What types of legal businesses have you set up for your websites?. Sole Owner/Incorporated or LLC?.

Would appreciate any feedback from experienced webmasters.

thanks

To avoid double taxation, and for liability issues, LLC is usually the best choice for online business owners. Theres a lot of articles out there on the different options.

First of all, your reason to form a corporation to avoid giving your social security number is wrong. The reason for setting up a corporation or LLC is to keep your personal assets seperate from business in case of a legal dispute or similar situations.

Your best bet is to first make a list of why you want to do a corporation. Once you have the list, read description of different types of corporations and you will know what to do. Furthermore, its always a good idea to consult with an attorney and CPA. Most of the time new comers get free advice on first visit plus you will be armed with your own knowledge as well ;)

Good luck

I was kind of wondering the same thing as well. My setup is an LLC right now, but as I open up new business ventures online I am considering having DBA's for each of them under the LLC.

If there is any legal advice out there concerning us keeping everything in line online it would be great to post for all of us to view.
