I live in the UK.

I'm making only small money online at the moment. Hopefully much more over the coming years.

If I'm making money online, do i need to be registered as a business, self employed, or both? How much money / when does it become a legal requirement?

Which legal structure is right for an online business, domaining and developing websites? What is the difference between sole trader and a limited company?

If i run a business, do i have to register as self employed? (or does that apply only when i earn a certain amount?)

Do i use my name, or create a business name?

Sorry for all the questions but i don't have a clue about any of this.

you should register a company and yourself as president or ceo of it...

i don't know about taxes in UK, but i think you have to pay some % of your anual income to the govern...

it's the basics of be a legal business

Especially if you're going to start working with larger clients/groups you'll want to have a legitimate business backing it. It brings credibility to the table, an added value when you're trying to command price or negotiate terms.

Best idea is to start as self employed .

After 3 months of trading you need to register yourself as a self emplyed , If you earn small amount of money - than you don't need to worry about TAX - Theres no tax at all .
You have to pay monthly contributions to HM revenue and customs - around GBP 13.00 a month - its all . I think you should visit HM revenue website .

Its very easy and cheap to run business in UK

If you own the business alone, you have to register it as a sole trader, limited company is for 2 or more persons involved. As for a small business it is not really that urgent that you rush things up for registration but some clients would only trust a registered one. It depends on your clients and how you deal with them. In my own opinion, you must register as self-employed for better rates. :)
