I started messing around with domaining last Tuesday and I just got my first email with interest in purchasing one of my domains! I won't list the domain here, as I haven't even negotiated yet and it's far from a done deal/may not even happen, but it's VERY encouraging to a new domainer to get interest in one of my domains from someone that I didn't even contact!

Big thanks to this forum and everyone on here, if this ends up happening I think I will be addicted to domaining and a big part of that is from all the knowledge I've soaked up from you all this past week. With that being said, I'm nowhere ready to start saying I know what I'm doing, just a beginner who may be getting lucky with a LOT more work left to do haha.

Just be careful if they ask for you to get an appraisal. It's a known scam for them to get you to spend money on an appraisal and you never hear back from them.

Sounds good, that was also partially another reason why I posted this thread other than excitement, because I figured I would get a few warnings to heed as I went into the process. This does kind of worry me because they did ask whether I was experienced in domains or a beginner. I'm hoping that's just because they want to see if they can try to drive the price down rather than do what you mentioned. I didn't answer that question when I emailed back regardless...haha

Hello Congrats!

I hope its not appraisal scam :) Be positive and aware about these scams

Dang, after looking at those examples I think it may be.
They didn't offer a price like in those ones so it didn't jump out that fishy to me, but the formatting of the email is very similar.

Thank you guys, if it does happen to be a scam(which it looks like it), at least I can take one positive away from it all....People are looking at my domains, even if they are trying to scam me! haha

Thanks again. Great community here.

EDITED EMAIL BELOW(Like I said, looks very similar):

Hello!

I represent an investor from USA who needs (Domain name) for a new project.

Are you still interested in selling this domain?

If so, please reply back and we will negotiate the price and discuss the sale process.

Are you a beginner in domain sales or an experienced seller?

Best Regards,

Yea, I just got the email back.

"Unfortunately my client isn't interested in anything under 20,000. Could you up your price to that so I get a better commission?"

Haha, riiiiiiiiight. See, now if they would have came at me with something like that right away, I would have known something was up.

Oh well, on to the next one(hopefully)

@cdmn119 - you can always share the name with us here, there is no harm as it is yours. Many can tell you right away if the inquiry on it would be legit or not.

Ok thanks.
I know it's not worth much, which is why I would have known something was up if they would have offered buku dollars right out of the gates. it's haytips.com , it was an impulse buy with a coupon that I came up with the other day while looking out over a hayfield hoping that maybe someday some farmer would want to start a website to talk about hay. haha

That's why I was kind of surprised that was the one I was being contacted about.

Don't let this early experience deter you cdmn119. Keep your chin, keep your knowledge broadening and keep your mind open and soon domaining will start pay off. I'm sure most posters in here have been sent these scam emails at some point. I know I got excited when I received one (before I was a member here), but I was just as pleased that I worked out it was a scam on my own before I lost any money. Take the positives and move on. Little victories my friend.
