First off I called because I got an email saying reminder there is a .tv renewal promotion, running til Nov 30,2007 save up to 50 % off.

I think cool, go into my account it is the same $24.95 price I regged them for in the first place. So I call the number in the email Elida Flores, very nice and very helpful person.

She says that is half off, I said no I always pay $24.95. Apparently the price for renewals is going up Dec 1 to like $35. And the $24.95 price for new is only good til DEC 31 2007. Then it going up unless they negotiate pricing.

She said ENOM has sold more .tv in 6 months then Verisign has since they bought the .tv corp combined. (Non Premium)

That renewals for .com run at 58 to 66 % where for .tv they are running at 75 to 80 %.

We discussed revenue on Channel Me and it was along the lines of something we discussed way back about Britney having an extra $20 for the month. She said we are not a traffic company it was meant to be something extra in your stocking. She also said not PPC but CPM, I said that's what I thought but the one thing about staying on the site factors in and she said it is sort of like a hodge podge, she said Google had some involvement bringing the advertisers to the table.

She said they were clear with Verisign about Premium renewals never going up while registered by the registrant.
T & C revised
These terms supercede any previous agreement you may have regarding your .TV domain registration. In addition to the terms set forth above, the following terms shall apply to registrants of .TV domain names. Premium .TV domains, shall be determined and designated Premium names by the Registry, and such Premium names are non-transferable to another registrar. Registration prices for Premium .TV domain names may vary. In addition, renewal prices for Premium .TV names may be different from the original registration price. Your premium name renewal fee will be no greater than your registration fee as long as all of the following occur 1) you renew the name, 2) VeriSign maintains its current .tv agreement with Tuvalu and 3) eNom maintains its current .tv agreement with VeriSign. eNom commits to not increase renewal fees above the registration fee for as long as the fees we pay do not increase. For .tv premium names that are not renewed (for names that are expired), eNom reserves the right to raise or lower the price of the registration fee before making it available for re-registration by someone else. The registration period for a .TV domain name is for one-year. Your registration of a domain name in the .TV top-level domain is subject to policies established or revised from time to time by the registry for such .TV domain name (".TV TLD Registry"), in its capacity as the registry for a .TV domain. The .TV's registry's current policies (".TV Registry Policies") are available for you to review at the registry web site. You agree to be bound by and comply with the applicable Registry Policies, including amendments and modifications thereto, with respect to your .TV domain Name registration. Such policies shall not alter the terms and conditions of this Agreement. To the extent there is a conflict between the Registry policies and the terms of this Agreement, the terms of this Service Agreement shall prevail. You agree that the .TV Registry has the right to enforce the .TV Registry Policies.

Interesting line she mentioned Godaddy and the sale was done to try to hurt ENOM as they saw ENOM gaining share with .tv. Another interesting line was that they focus on engineering not marketing. She said we are number 2 and do not spend money on marketing different from Godaddy who is a master marketer. She said they are about engineers giving resellers the tools to be successful.

there was a sailor who joined a pirate ship. the captain promised the crew huge riches if they came worked his boat for low pay. the farther they got out to sea, the more lost they were. the crew tried to show the captain that the map he was using was an older map, and that there was a better way to go, guaranteeing prosperity. but, the captain did things his way, and poo-pooed the crew.

several weeks later, the ship made it to land, but one sailor did not think this was the right island. so after they threw anchor and went on shore, the lone sailor took the raft, a copy of the map and a compass, and headed out.

the pirate captain and his crew searched for days but only found coconuts and bananas, while the lone sailor found the island, and found the riches.

and the point of this weird story????
i myself, ( this is the opinion of smashy) have decided to stop watching richard, and me.tv, and waiting for them to "make it happen"

tv is happening because its tv- and it is going to happen even if richard goes to the wrong island- because this is the one extension that fits the future of the web naturally. it doesnt need the captain to hold premium auctions on sedo, or get on msnbc to talk about it. would it help? of course it would- but this extension doesnt need it. and i believe that.
outside this forum, tv is happening. i have been working on a few different maps of my own to take me and my portfolio where it needs to be-
the fluctuation in reg prices- its not gonna kill tv- most people will just look for the cheaper price, like they go the cheapest gas station and seek out the cheapest interest rate credit cards- i dont need richard, or verisign- they can both go, well- anyways. tv is cctld, just like all the others, and domainers do not get personally involved with the head of those cctld's or tlds. people dont talk about what is being done to push .net, or .name or .ws.
it sucks to feel like the captain is not the best leader for our ship, but we all have the ability to draw up our own maps and make tv happen for us.
wipe away richard, any promises, any hype- and look at tv like a blank slate- like you would a com or a net- and run with it like you would with those.
peace out peeps!
(always wanted to say that)

Actually .web or .media would fit the future of the internet better.

My philosphy is this: The dot tv extension is right now the best alternative media destination available. In order to get the rest of the world to recognize that, there needs to be some major development of tv sites. There also needs to be a company marketing the extension that doesn't suck at it.

Demand media is sucking a big fat one right now at marketing the extension because they simply don't have the skills to do it. They have the second largest registrar, but ONLY because they bought it. The pricing inconsistensies across the different pages should have been fixed long ago, but they OBVIOUSLY don't want to because if someone signs up at any other enom besides enom.tv, then they get charged more.

If you put a million monkeys in a room with typewriters, eventually you will get a poem. But that poem will have monkey poop on it.

actually, .media is too long- and if you had a poem written by a million monkeys with monkey poop on it, you would probably throw it away- i myself would sell it on ebay as the only poem written, and "signed" by a million monkeys, and would profit too.

Huh? Did you take a look at some of the other "properties" in their portfolio? Does the rest of their portfolio have the potential of being the second most popular TLD on the planet?

At a minimum Richard needs to hire someone to clean house at Demand Media and get the ship back on course. IMO.

I repeat myself. Look at the lineup of projects/ventures DemandMedia is juggling.

They can only do so much with the .TV extension... why? Because they have very little control over it, if any at all. In my opinion, they've done their job up to this point.... they have convinced "me" to invest in .TV when Verisign could not... after almost 5+ years. It is now my job to take the ball and run with it. I don't expect anyone else to drive traffic to my sites... or market the extension... or make me rich... that's my job. And I'm well aware of it.

As far as premium pricing is concerned, I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon... there have been a few 5 & 6 figure a year premiums that have been picked up recently and many $500-$1000yr premiums are quickly disappearing. There are people out there who have no problem buying great generics and paying a premium renewal fee each year, so why would Verisign kill off a lucrative revenue stream. Don't see that happening.

Regarding various pricing for the TLD across different ENOM sites/resellers... I don't see why we are all making such a big deal about this... .TV is not alone... look at the various pricing of .com across the board... people still paying up to $25-$35yr to register/renew .com, while others pay $7 depending on how well you know how to find a bargain. And ENOM is not alone either... look at GoDaddy... pricing for domains at GoDaddy are different from BlueRazor (GD's discount club), and those are also different than WildWestDomains (GD's reseller program), and each reseller using WW has the option to price domains according to their own desires. Enom is the same way, IMHO.

mrrhee- i agree with you and echo your sentiments almost 100%

the only thing i think is that demand, regardless of verisign and other projects, could certainly be doing more. demand didnt get me sold on tv, the other domainers in this forum did- demand did nothing to burn the fire in my heart for tv- it was listening to the well thought out plans and expectations of others who know the value of the extension.

enom has more power than is let on with tv, and could very well take further steps. i dont believe richard came into this agreement thinking his hands would be tied, and would have no room for say in anything- who enters contracts like that? that is not any sort of a sound business choice- and i dont think that was done.

regardless of that tho, i agree wholeheartedly that tv is in the hands of each of us and how we run with it will determine how well we do with it. :)

I agree that they don't totally control .TV, but the suggestion that they have very little control (or no control) is not plausible.

My decision to invest in .TV comes from the fact that the term "TV" has a meaning to almost everyone on Earth, it's the perfect extension for hosting streaming media, and because I believe a vast number of consumers will begin using their computers to view television broadcasts.

.vid or .dvd or .live will be the next one, though the us banned .xxx twice because it would have killed .com and hurt the internet all together making the internet a a total smut hole,I think at the $100000 a pop to just be reviewed, ican will start registering .$$$, then the major tv networks and entertainment giants will all start the true destruction of .com .tv .whatever, creating their own top level extensions .abc .nbc .fox .espn .sony .mgm, etc, it is so obvious and logical (now that I have figured this out I may reduce my efforts on the .tv market), its only a moment away, and if Rosenblat had any desire to sell .tv he would have ads plastered all over his .com sites, viral videos on youtube and such.... and also if you notice, the only developed site on the list that was displayed in this thread about his puppy projects, was enom.tv/channelme.tv representing .tv, just my thoughts.....

wasn't cracked knocked off by more dominant and much funnier mad in the 80's?

another thing.... enom has mentioned that names may be as high as 39.99 come 2008(hope godaddy has another 9.99 fire sale), great for those who reg'd many names at 24.99/14.99 :(
:yell:

one last mention, to add a little hope to me.tv the addition of hollywood.tv will bring a very big boost as they have already had 250000 TRUE hits in a couple of weeks, and the platform is perfect for what they are after not to mention the fact that the ceo has nfl.tv , nascar.tv, muslims.tv, DUBAI.TV (which I was trying to grab when it was being dropped a couple weeks back, to see it go get picked up by enom and then listed automatically to enom premium names for ONLY $1000 per year when they tried to get me for 25000 for Crazy.tv??? And the next day the same owner of hollywood.tv has DUBAI.TV????) and a few other very powerful names, and I'm sure deeper pokets than rosenblat .......

IMO

you can still register/renew/transfer for only $23.95/year at www.needname.com. This is an extended promo 'till the end of Dec.31.

This is a good opportunity who owns .TV domain names.

I think it's too soon to make a bid. I assume Enom might have at least 10 years contract with Verisign.
I've read that it's 2015, This is from an older thread called-
When does .tv contract with Tuvalu expire?

according to this article the deal is 15 years starting in 2000-
http://www.tuvalu-news.tv/archives/2007/02/minisiter_of_communications_tr.html

here is the article:

February 9, 2007

Minisiter of Communications Transport to Verisign
By Silafaga Lalua

The Minister of Transport and Communications Hon. Taukelina Finekaso has come back to the country this week after attending a 3 day meeting with Verisign in Washington, USA.

Verisign, the company that runs the dot TV domain, invited the minister and Secretary Tapugao Falefou to the United States to see its operation.

They talked on the agreement with Tuvalu, how they can get more money for Tuvalu, the Verisign opportunity for government Information, Computing and Technology ICT department staff, and the possibility of operating a mirror registry in Tuvalu.

Finekaso stated this is the 6th year of the 15 year agreement that the government signed with Verisign in 2000.

Tuvalu has received 2.2 million US dollars in the first five years of the agreement. From this 6th year onward, Tuvalu will receive 2 million US dollars.

Under the same agreement, it was settled that if Verisign acquires revenue of more than 5 million US dollars after every quarter, 5 percent will be Tuvaluโ€™s.

Because it hasnโ€™t reached that goal in the past 5 years, the 5 % has not been paid to Tuvalu yet.

Minister stated that the agreement cannot be re-negotiated.

There was an upfront payment of 25 million dollars paid to the government, and the total amount paid to Tuvalu has not being recovered by Verisign up to date.

Verisign still looks for ways to increase its revenue so Tuvalu can also benefit.

The trip to the USA was fully sponsored by Verisign and Hon. Finekaso arrived in the country yesterday.

SO,
What was decided about the regfee increase? Does it go to $35 for sure after Dec 31?

Thanks Rogor - a good article.

I have not seen or read anything from VeriSign or any Registrar about an increase in reg fees or renewals after Dec 31. I have only seen comment every now and again in threads.

If any one has a link to an announcement or article suggesting an increase it would be appreciated by all.

I was told by Demand Media directly that they will not be going up. Both renewals and fresh regs will be staying at $24.95

Once again showing the disconnect between Parent Demand Media and Enom.

I agree I looked the first day after she told me it would go up for renewals Dec 1 and it was still $24.99 and I was like what the heck ? She was a very nice lady but had no clue and I asked her over 6 times during the conversation.

Where do I go?

My renewals are 49.95! Double my reg fees. I am shocked! I don't know how I missed this. Any advice on a way to lower renewal fees?

Thanks,

Judy, I renewed a few the other day and they did not double. Are you at enom.tv or enom.com, because it makes a difference?
