$250K in 1990 is comparable to around $450-500K today. Not too shabby.

Are you upset because he sold it for "cheap" or because he's such a good friend that you might have been able to buy it if he still owned it today?

But if he invested his 250k well, at 10% interest for 15 years that would be over a million dollars...

Here is how I think it should be viewed. Someone you know made enough money on a domain to influence his finances for the rest of his life (unless he was already really rich). That shows that it is possible in the real world, not just in stuff you read on forums (not for us but for you. For the rest of us it is still forum talk.)

I think there are good chances in this market today, this internet thing is a long way from mature.

At first I thought you meant he sold it for diddly squat and later the name sold for the 250,000.

He did well selling it for that price back then. Many people let some great names drop without a second thought.
