I've HAD IT With GoDaddy's Freezing Checkout Page

Posted on Godaddy's Facebook page.

You just lost two pretty good sales from me, both yesterday and today.

Why?

Because your complicated check out page kept freezing on me when I tried to change the number of years for registration.

So I registered my domains at Domainmonster which has an EASY loading page without all the stupid upselling nonsense.

The default registration is now 5 years, so when you try changing it to one year, it hangs up and freezes.

I've had it with this chronic nonsense at Godaddy.

Its more than likely an issue with your computer/browser than godaddy. It never freezes for me. I do agree that a 5 year default is a bit much but no matter if its 5 years or 2 years I always change it to 1. One of the more annoying things with the checkout recently was when i would change the years from 5 to 1 i would get a pop up asking me if i wanted to sync all the expiration dates of my domains for some reason.

I tried two different computers, both very recent with 6 gig of ram.

No, it's Godaddy or explorer.

Everything else is working fine, though.

I concur, the latest change is a slight nuisance, but have personally not experienced any browser freezes - and I've been registering a new domain every time a new code gets posted in the GD thread here...

I'm trying Chrome now, so I'll try regging a domain when I have one to register.

I haven't experienced any freezing but I also agree that the 5 year auto setting is really annoying. They try to upsell you on everything which kind of irritates me but other than that I really love Godaddy.

Chrome works for me when experiencing problems with FireFox. In fact I use Chrome all the time now with GoDaddy Auctions because of the problems FireFox is having with the auctions. I still use FireFox with their Control Panel though. GoDaddy disavow the problems I'm having with FireFox and suggest using Chrome "for a better user experience". Which is kinda a backdoor way of saying, "yes we know there are problems with FireFox and our Auctions platform, but we won't admit it".

One thought about your IE. You should be using either 9 or 10 these days with the amount of HTML5/CSS3 coming out. I don't think GoDaddy are using it yet, but I think anything before 9 is ancient already.

Thanks, Stub.

I was able to reg a domain on Chrome. Still slow, though.

And the auction search page: Blech. It hung up during a search.

No issues with freezing but I agree GD upsells the living crap out of everything. I've used them so much though I just go blind when the all the "extras" pop up. I've become so use to it though I pretty much just go in autopilot mode when regging a name there.

Domainers are funny, they complain all the time but there are alternatives :)

Of course I use GD too, but only for auctions and incoming pushes. I wouldn't want to have all the portfolio over at GD. The UI is bloated and a waste of time. Why stick with a registrar that doesn't care about the poor user experience ?

where else can you renew domains for 8.46?

We pay $8.50 at Dynadot (super bulk pricing). Even if it's $9 or $10 does it make a big difference.
Fabulous is competitive too. Renewal fees are business expenses for tax purposes.
Even if you are not incorporated you have to factor the time wasted and the peace of mind (or the lack thereof).

GD is bloated not because it's feature-rich - in fact they are lacking essential features like default name servers (please tell me if I'm quoting old news). Their website is bloated because the design if poor from a usability POV - but they are so big they don't really care, you are just a number.

I agree with most of what you say. But disagree about their Control Panel. Yes it is bloated, but for me, I think it's the best Control Panel out there. With faults, yes. But their search features are second to none.

The reason I switch to Dynadot about 2 years ago was because of the limited amount of whois searches GoDaddy allow you. About 100/day. that is not user friendly for a domainer with many domains. It could take me about 1.5 months to update my whois records on my computer, if I made a global change to my whois records. OK. You don't do that very often, but you only need to do it even once to know, that it's a real PITA. Dynadot allow me 5000 whois lookups a day. Problem solved. and only pennies more in regfees. Worth every penny :) I can do almost as much at Dynadot as I could do at GoDaddy, with a substantially less bloated interface. There are other reasons to use Dynadot over GoDaddy. Such as your account manger listens to you and is receptive to suggestions. I've had a couple of suggestions added to their Control Panel. At GoDaddy, your account manger is more interested in keeping you in line, than actually listening to suggestions. It wasn't like that 5 years ago. Dynadot's Whois Privacy is easy to use, unlike GoDaddy's. GoDaddy's 60 day locked rule if you change the Registrant, sucks big time.

I don't think Fabulous are competively priced for most of us.You need to spend about $35,000/year to get their lowest pricing.

It is not really freezing, it is taking 5 minutes to load one page.

Probably using SSL to send Danica's picture.

To avoid these issues, try http://www.godaddymobile.com

The checkout process is absurdly simple in comparison to the main site. I use the mobile version on my desktop, and never go to the main site unless it's to push a domain.

ive never had this issue - I do agree that I dont like the default 5 year registration, but I just registered about 15 domains using codes for .99, 2.49. 4.29 - I can't beat that price anywhere + there has never been a time I was not able to use a code.

what has frozen in my case is the gd cart, ie not recognizing my methods of pymt which led me to lose the domain (it was right before it went to redemption) but i got it thru a buddy in auctions and it was cheaper than those $80, and it has frozen at other times.....chrome sometimes will not display a popup window in the gd dcc like when you modify anything, i find firefox can stall too but it's mainly being slower, so amazingly gd cp actions work better w/ie 9 or 10

the new gd 5-yr new default bothers so many of us, and do not go for the express checkout, if you use that then your cc gets charged w/o you having a chance to review the cart one last time, and if you haven't noticed the 5-yr default you're in for a surprise....and good luck gettin refunded w/yodaddy ! those gd promo codes work best for handregs, sometimes you won't be able to use them for transfers and normally they do not work for renewals ime

and i find the gd ui to be really good, the dcc/cp has so many options/features, by far the most comprehensive out there (except perhaps for the several crazed moniker screens you have to go thru for any domain actions ((bulk or individual)) and they do not have individual screens for each domain ... ?! hello ! this is 2013....) with gd the individual domain screen for each lets you do just about anything you can think of and it's designed really well..... too bad gd has always sucked at customer support, that is their achilles' heel... why can't they get ever their act together

dynadot told me i needed superbulk activity to qualify for lower prices, they meant hundreds and so i can't afford them (why don't they ever have any promos ?) i use them for domains that are there before they expire, too bad, i hear c/s is great and security also

:-/

Yeah, I was with DynaDot only a short while before I got sick of them. I must've entered by birthdate incorrectly when I signed up, and they were at a loss about how to fix it for validating transfers, etc. I didn't know what the flubbed date was. They just gave me an "Oh, well!" sort of response.

So I pushed the domains to another account and transfered them away with it.

Made no sense.

But really, I can't recommend using http://godaddymobile.com enough - you can use it in your browser, etc.

How did you push to another account without knowing your birthday? You need that to unlock your account when pushing a domain. Smells like BS. Also I have never had any "so so" answers from Dynadot. Their reps have always been extremely helpful, imho.

You don't need to unlock DynaDot domains to push them. ;) Your BS detector is malfunctioning.

If you've never gotten disappointing responses from them, it might be because you didn't have the same issue. Easy questions get easy answers, things they don't know how to fix get "so so" responses.

I just find it all kind of amusing becuase they had this weird vibe, like I could possibly be a hacker or scammer they couldn't help. I was e-mailing them from the e-mail address on record, could give my password and CC number, anything they wanted, but... you have to remember what birthday is put in, or they won't allow an unlock...

Yet then you can just push domains to any account you please!

XD
