TOTALLY FED - UP With GoDaddy's "Wonderful" Changes

Once again, Go Daddy has made changes to its log in page, and I just snapped. I had to hunt all over for the domain management button. I finally found it, but now I'm p'od. My rep agrees with me and says complaints have been coming his way.

Here's an edited version of what I posted:

Please tell the developers to PLEASE bring back the old interface. I'm getting tired of hunting around for my domain management panel after signing in.

It's a HUGE pain having to go through a bunch of product offerings when all I want to do is manage my domains (after signing in).

Everything at Go Daddy is just getting complicated with bloated domain management panels, slow loading times, glitches, and short log-in periods. I get kicked off my account every five minutes.

I spend too much time trying to navigate these new interfaces, which, frankly are designed to get customers to spend more money and not designed to make our user experience any easier.

Go Daddy has gone overboard with overwhelming customers with waaay too much advertising, and I think GD has reached the point of diminishing returns.

Thank you.

I also posted a version of this on Facebook (both my timeline and Go Daddy's).

Yeah, it's been pretty annoying - http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/795856-godaddy-new-today-login-changes-buggy.html

Just today, I used my other login that didn't have a popup, now that login has a pop up as well, when using Roboform (fill and submit).

That's just the login. The interface is just becoming more of a mess.

edited to add. Just logged in, I now see the 3rd different interface that I can remember in the last month. I login more than a few times each day and this is a totally new interface that I'm just now seeing.

I had trouble finding the link to my domains/management. It used to be a link under Products, Domains. It's still there but not where it usually is, it's now on the bottom right of Products/Domains under this link Current Domain Customers - Manage Now >

They actually made it worse again, haha damn. The newer version had it where they had letters and I could just click and go to all my domains starting with the letter P, that's gone. Then they had it where you can just start typing the domain and it would kind of autofill like Google, that's gone. So this new interface is different than the newer interface I've been seeing last few weeks, on and off.

Ah nevermind, I can get to it from Control Panel. Actually I think it's bouncing back between the 2 newer versions. It's like musical interfaces.

"Just today, I used my other login that didn't have a popup, now that login has a pop up as well, when using Roboform (fill and submit)."

And I just tested the login from the homepage, now it changed as well again but it now works with Roboform. The other login I was using because the homepage one wasn't working, now doesn't work. So back to original login bookmark, that's now actually new and working. And of course, they moved it to the upper right, it was in the upper left.

That overall has pissed me off more then anything, and it is getting worse and worse.

And now on the whois page, they have placed the whois search on the bottom of the page.

@Ms Domainer - Why don't you just go directly to dcc.godddy.com? You will be prompted to login and then you go directly to the management panel. This avoids all the crap. I've been doing it that way for years.

That's the one I started to use, but that stopped working smoothly with my Roboform today. But the homepage one is working again for me, even tho popups are dumb for logins.

Just to double check, do you have a link to that login? NM - dcc.godaddy.com

Yep, doesn't work with my Roboform. It's that search box at the top that's causing the issues.

It puts the words - "Enter your password" into the search box, and then I get the pop up anyway.

People with other Password managers were having issues as well with the regular login - http://support.godaddy.com/groups/go-daddy-customers/forum/topic/new-login-pop-up/

I don't know what Roboform is or which browser you use, but that is working for me with using FireFox and Firefox's password manager. the link is simply https://dcc.godaddy.com, and the login pops up. After login, you go directly to the control panel.

It's one of the top Password Managers. Other well known ones like LastPass were having issues as well, only after GoDaddy started fiddling around with the logins. But again, the homepage one is working smoothly again for me now, while the dcc is now having issues. As long as one works, I'm good.

Go Daddy Suggestion Box

*

I did get a response on Facebook from ^J. Evidently, these changes have elicited angry responses from customers, and ^J promises that in the coming days we'll see vast improvements.

*Holding Breath*

Perhaps we could use this thread to make some suggestions on what we would like as the "ideal" user site. I could then post these on Facebook...If we're going to complain, we might as well send GD our wish list -- some realistic suggestions for improving the user experience.

I'll start:

1. Simplicity, simplicity, beautiful, lovely simplicity. FAST is better than fancy schmancy with glitchy slow loading pages.

2. Prominent login with simple drop down (Snapnames, Namejet, and Sedo are pretty cool).

3. A minimum of a 30-minute login time--I seem to spend a lot of time logging in. If I leave the site for more than five minutes (often doing a search related to what I'm doing on Go Daddy), I have to go through the onerous chore of logging in, which means all those crappy up-selling pages AGAIN.

4. Once in the domain management panel, I do like having all those options before me, and the auction option on the right side is awesome and quick, BUT I should be able to navigate to forwarding a domain with one click, not 3. WTF?

5. The email set-up page is a total mess -- after all this time, I'm still confused. It seems to me that you have two choices: set up an email address or an email forwarding. But, no. For forwarding you have to select which domain account you want to use, and I have yet to figure out how to match the forwarding I want with the free account I want to attach it to. It gets done, but not always attached to the account I want. I do a lot of settling. Ick.

6. The search function in the domain management panel is simply gone :'(

When you have a lot of domains, it helps to have a keyword search function, for example, finding 4 character domains within your panel. You used to be able to set up folders -- that was nice and helpful.

7. Cut back on advertising, especially on work pages. On the home page? Fine. Go Daddy needs to advertise, draw in new customers. I get that. But when I'm regging or bidding on a domain, I need to get where I'm going and fast.

We should be able to set up our registration preferences in advance (to streamline our regging process). You can set up a whois preference for new regs and auction wins, but it doesn't work. Period. In account preferences, there is no button for your country telephone code, so that means you have to make changes within the domain management panel itself. More work.

Advertising starts to lose its effectiveness after a while -- overload = a point of diminishing returns. I think Go Daddy is there. To me, the ads are just another impediment to my goal.

8. Admit when something has gone awry, such as the big crash of July 2013, which screwed up my IP settings for a month. Every one kept denying it, but I'm not stupid -- my IP settings were totally wacked out. I basically had to figure out things on my own, after someone FINALLY gave me the correct info with which to work. Eventually, things smooth out, but I was left with a bad taste.

9. A business' best advertisement is its excellent service. All the ads in the world will not convince a customer to stay with the company if service is poor or condescending.

Customers know when the control panels are set up to maximize profits at the expense of smooth user experience. This was totally clear to me when I saw that last version where the product tab replaced the navigation tab. That totally sent me into a rant.

I might think of more tomorrow, but my brain is fried right now.

Anything I forgot?

@JB - What do these password managers have over Firefox's inbuilt password manager?

I have to wait to see which one they go with.

Today, got the domain got transferred over email so I went to login to update the Contact info, since not everything gets put in the right spot on the way over. And saw a completely new interface for the first time, took me awhile to get around. It's worse than the one we've been seeing lately, the one I see right now. Logged out and back in to see if it shows up again but haven't been able to replicate it. If they go with that one, then my suggestions would be very different, and much longer. I hope that's not the one they're talking about when they say they've taken our concerns into consideration and that will show in the new interface.

@JB - What do these password managers have over Firefox's inbuilt password manager?

It could be me. I'm just not comfortable with keeping my passwords in the browser, even tho FF seems to be the best in security over the other browsers with password managers. I was trying to read up on this, searching for stuff like - firefox password manager security vs. roboform. Need to do more reading on that. But, Roboform was one that was always suggested from back in the day, and one I've never had a problem with. It's always had great ratings. Last Pass seems to be another popular one, but they had some breach a couple of years ago.

Must be all these codes there losing money on and people are not renewing the domains at the wanted prices. Go figure give in one area for a much greater pain in another.

You're preaching to the choir Jennifer :)

After so many years I have come to the conclusion that the poor experience resulting from the bloated UI is deliberate. Nodaddy makes simple things complicated and tedious, because they want you to stay longer on their website and exposed to the upselling.

UX has never been Godaddy's strong point - to put it mildly. Their "new and not improved" interface doesn't surprise me in the least.

The domain manager changes which they made a few months back was crap.

And a bunch of other dumb stuff, like the log in change of a few weeks ago... wait a few seconds for that damn window to show. You not sure if you clicked or not because there were those few seconds between that click and when the log in window appeared. So you click the login button for a second time... but now the log in window has appeared briefly and disappeared...the home page is greyed out-can't click jack. A refresh is required. What the hay was that all about?

They've changed it now-but because of these issues, I've left some domains with dynadot/moniker/etc and renewed them that side instead of transferring. I seriously don't have time for their jokes.

My brain is telling me to move my names away from Godaddy altogether. Seems like a smart move to me. I'm sure some registrar would be willing to negotiate a lower renewal rate for a bulk transfer to them.

And now I see a baker doing the splits with his legs stretched on two bags of flour, beating off... on his drums of course.

This is what bakers get up with the flour that ends up in your bread! :D

Signs of an emerging New Domain Order? I think so.

Yes it's terrible. I actually had to phone them because I was unable to process my order via the new cart. Even the rep couldn't process the order until I played around with the country and currency etc. before we could finally get it to work. And that was just for a straightforward domain renewal order. I've never had any problems like this before - only since the new cart came into effect.

I introduced them to a new customer a few days ago and helped them register a domain for their business. The GoDaddy iPhone app wouldn't let him check out. Every time we attempted to do so, it kept asking for the country again and again despite entering it each time. And this was totally unecessary because he'd already signed up and entered that information. In the end, we used the web interface and were able to place the order but they didn't apply the privacy he had purchased. More unecessary calls to support and he thought the process was extremely shoddy and unprofessional.

I bought a domain elsewhere today because I simply couldn't be bothered jumping through all the hoops and running the risk that the domain would be taken by the time I could check out. And now checkout sometimes wants me to reconfirm my PayPal and charge me in Euros. And I live in the UK... More easy money for PayPal giving me crap exchange rates and it's totally unecessary. Why they are removing the options to pay in alternate currencies I just do not know.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Especially if you are replacing it with something that's much worse...

Transfers

Their console is a mess, including where you need to transfer a domain. It seems like every important function is buried in a maze of hunt and peck clicks. Nothing is uniform or straight-forward. It appears that when the programmers there get an idea in their head they just add their revisions to the site without actually testing it with someone who is unfamiliar with their site to see if it is confusing or not.

I swear using godaddy nowadays is like wearing a blindfold and being spun around with a piรฑata stick. Maybe you will hit what you want, and maybe you won't.

It is not just the confusing site that matters to me. It is also their new transfer process. I paid to transfer out two domains from them yesterday. I received and entered the codes and then got an email stating:

GoDaddy received notification on September 04, 2013 that you requested a domain transfer to another domain name registrar.

If you wish to cancel the transfer prior to the auto-complete date, you must decline it before 08-Sep-2013.

If you want to proceed with this transfer, no action is required. However, you may also accept it immediately.

To accept or decline the transfer, log in to your account and click on "Transfer" above your list of domains: (link omitted)...

First of all, there is no "Transfer" above the list of domains. The link is in the dropdown list for "Domains.

My problem now is it used to be you could see the actual domains to be transferred out within minutes of entering the codes, and then accept the transfer out. The domains would then be transferred in just a few minutes as well.

It has been nearly 12 hours now and the transfer page is still blank. Even when I click on the godaddy email that states that I "may also accept it immediately" I still see the blank transfer out page.

Godaddy needs to get on the ball and stop wasting people's time with their inefficient, manipulative, overly redundant but not uniform links and confusing site.

Geesh, are they so frigg'n clueless that they actually need people to complain about the obvious before anything is changed for the better?
