I posted this on my blog earlier. I'd value your thoughts as we reach the 3rd anniversary of the .TV metamorphosis. - Claude
Hello All,
Here we are three years after Verisign changed the pricing policy for .TV domain names. It seems apparent to me that the extension has grown in popularity over this period, in spite of obstacles which affect the entire domaining industry.
I’d like to think that over the last three years, the .TV extension has built a foundation on which to grow. IMHO, I expect the .TV extension to grow in popularity at an even faster pace over the next three years. The extension is meaningful, memorable and quite presentable. It appears that many large businesses, which would not likely to pay much attention to .BIZ or .INFO extensions, are putting time, energy and resources into .TV.
When we started investing in the .TV extension in 2010, I expected that it would take about three years for the extension to gain public acceptance, if it were to gain such acceptance at all. Well, it’s been three years and I would say that .TV has gained acceptance, respect and a lot of eyeballs over this period. As for the next three years, no one can be sure, but I’m bullish. Last night, for the first time in my life, I saw a television commercial which displayed a .COM domain name at the end and thought it looked a bit dated. Don’t get me wrong, the .COM extension is still the most popular, but time and gravity have a habit of changing almost everything over time.
