Four Year Wait to Sell a hand regged .tv

In March 2021 I regged TableTennis*tv and it just sold it via Afternic/GoDaddy for $7450.

I personally believe it was a cheap price for the buyer but I had lost a lot of faith in the .tv extension so had dropped my expectation of the value of the name over the four year period.

My .tv collection has reduced over the past few years to just names I feel are just top tier names even though I still see lots of media/tv/gaming companies and influencers using it as their main web address and e-mail name (ie Twitch, EuroVision, etc).

Was this too cheap a sale or just right?

Would love to hear the views of others to this and whether .TV has a stable or a golden future.

Hi @GoneWalkabout,

I do not have experience selling .tv domains, but from what you said in the opening post, I would be very happy if I received a sale of $7450, especially when you hand register the domain at a low cost. If you are wondering if the value of your sale is underpriced, I would suggest taking into account your country's cost of living, comparable sales in Namebio, overall cost of your domain portfolio (including renewal fees) and your country's tax laws.

Nice sale bro!

Regards
Kenny

I am down to just two .tv domains (not that I ever had a lot), I feel it's a very narrow niche and the renewal costs mount up, making the wait quite painful for anything that's not at the very top.

Congrats on the sale! I think it was fair considering the wait and current .tv sentiment.

Congrats!
I understand your frustration, and why it gave the buyer a steal of a deal. Especially for a sports TV name, as that by far is the hottest TV market.

With the major streaming TV platforms paying billions to lock-in coverage rights on the major sports, the focus now is on the other sports.

While Live sports is in a league of its own, I'm betting the future for TV domains over all is golden, primarily because Broadcast TV stations are transitioning to Internet Protocols, with 'NextGen TV' tech..

TV broadcasters are the sidelined Big League players in the TV domain game because they had their own Call Letters before the web began.

Their playing field grew a bit in the 90's when the analog to digital TV transition added up to four new channels per digit: 5.2 / 5.4, etc..

The NextGen digital TV transition can add up to 500 new channels per digit. And, those channels can deliver better audio & video than websites.

However, its still five, or so, years out. But I figured TV domains would be a 'next gen' game when I got into them 20 years ago... when buffering 'Real Media' video players were the size of postage stamps.

Hi Ammar. I actually didn't even think about reporting this as .tv is such a niche area of domains these days and the main players all understand what is selling / has sold and what is not.

That said, for the absence of doubt, I just popped a message over to Ron Jackson with the date and details of the sale.

As has been said many times before .tv is an area that rarely gets coverage, is not mainly liked by domainers, is more difficult to get to grips with, is way more expensive than .com, but is quietly popular with end users who need to get a visual message across.

Some areas definiteky do not work with .tv, but things like sports, gaming, music, marketing, and people in social media such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, even X/Twitter are using .tv domains to direct straight to their content or as an email address.
