Is anyone still investing in .US domains?

Has anyone sold any .US domains lately?

Where would you sell them?

Obviously in the .US .com is king too, but I have seen at times .us being used by different companies.

.us is a good investment if you wanna buy low. However, its a timing matter. You have to see the turn in the market before it happens. If you register too many, too soon, registration fees will eat up profits. If you registered too late, the good ones are gone. The market is turning for .US from what I've seen via expireddomains.net, sedo/Godaddy bidding patterns.

I remember, prior to the end of llll.net for registration upon deletion/expiration... The last one I picked up was ccpr.net.. Now I cannot register llll.net straight from expired (side note, next to go is .org). It was the same way with lll.us, I use to be able to register these also but cannot anymore, there fiercely registered right away upon delete/expiration. And its ok that some are being deleted or expiring.. This is part of the process. Same thing happen with .com, .net, .org, and other gTLD.

Once all is registered and held, demand goes up, price goes up. But there is also cycling from the release by investors... As big portfolios may let go of some domains due to increased registration fees, lack of CURRENT liquidation potential, and because of ill timing for initial buy of those domains. Its a timing thing, a faith thing, a speculation thing.... But if you think .us is simply going to continue where it currently is, you are in for a wake up call.... And perhaps sooner then later.

Just as another side note...I suspect some expired domains from lll.com, and one word llll.com...the previous holders had died or passed away. Make sure you have instructions for family members on what to do when you expire before your domains do.

Can you share some of the data with us. Sedo/GD bidding patterns.

I think you joined the forum at the peak of the China hype, buyout threads. You notice we're not having those threads anymore? Go visit those threads and ask people how things are going. People were thinking if they buyout _________ the values would just go up. No. You're just left holding a bunch of domains nobody wants.

I did not mean to make it sound like absolute truth... I am aware that investors will drop, domains will be repurchased, and the cycle continues. But there will be emerging pattern (and there is) an overall pattern of holds. Especially as end-users get a hold of domain names and establish sites.

"Bunch of domains no one wants"???.. IMO .us has a legitimate end user. Where as, more questionable domain, such as xyz... I don't know. Where do you see the .us in 5-10 years from now lions?

I think many people in America prefer .mx more than .us.

the first name that I really developed and made money with that really inspired me was stimuluscheck.us, which is still up and running now. It still makes hundreds of dollars a month, even though there is no stimulus check. It still, still blows my mind. That was a name that I developed. I had about 20,000 unique visitors the first month. It was outranking the irs.gov information site about stimulus checks. In my first month, I was the authority in the United States on the government stimulus check that Bush was issuing and that was making thousands of dollars a month and after about month three, I thought, “Wow,” I’ve made like, I think it was like 3600 dollars or something in the last three months, off of a name that I had hand registered for 5 bucks.

Was it ever alive to begin with?

I do not believe anyone for the entire duration of this thread has ever said it was previously alive... don't know what you are addressing here in the quote above. However, its not dead currently. It has more end users then .xyz IMO. Its dead to investors....not dead to real end-users.

Are there a few small businesses using .US? Yes. Are they buying .US aftermarket domains frequently enough to justify investing in them? No. Most end users will do anything necessary to avoid paying for an aftermarket domain. They will use hyphens, abbreviations, three or four words, numbers like 4 or 2 in place of "for" and "to", and alternate extensions like .Net, .US, .Biz, .CO and now that we have a thousand more TLDs to choose from, some of these low-budget developers and end users will register new TLDs. That does not make them good investments. If the only reason end users are choosing inferior options is because they don't want to spend more than $20 on a domain name, how can you justify investing in that extension. Yes, there will be outlier sales but that does not make investing in lottery tickets a good idea.

I can't say there has been much progress over the last 10 years. .us is still not considered a solid extension. Is this going to change in the next 10 years ? While it's hard to predict the future, I don't see any dynamics at play, that would improve the current status of .us.
Even if .us became fashionable it would take many years to catch up to .com and other extensions. While I have made some good sales (some LLL or generics) I can't recommend .us as an investment, unless you have uberpremium keywords and buy sparingly.

There are more than a "few"... but I like the qualifier, that if taken away removes the validity of the whole entire rest of your post against .US.
Considered it removed.. Just go to about.us, or do a just ".us" search. Then compare that with .xyz. Yet, some are suggesting foolish things because of a culture within the investors paradigm itself. Its foolish. Its a cleshay.

That's fine be me though... Its this ignorance that allows for capitalization.

Not seeing .US on the list of affected SLDs. Am I missing something?
I think you mean us.com, It is not on the list but is owned by the same company and people may Understandably feel the same thing may happen to them.

It's dependent upon people understanding they bought a sub-domain. The majority that own these domains don't know.

Same thing went through my mind after reading the article:)

Lol. :) All NPs members should agree a .US is much better than a sub-domain.

Yes, of course I mean .us.com . I hope .us.com goes away, considering I would like to see .US unfurl as the most important of the lot. Lots of entities use .us, but domainers drive the inflation bubble, and domainers aren't in the buy mode for .us. Too many other distractions like dot-getarealjob.
