Hi folks,
A newbie question.

I know a domain name. It had been registered in few years ago and expiring in a month or so.

The Ovt: close to 8K
Google results in 20k for quoted name (two words) and it is a .com

A variation of the name is parked.

Now,is this name worth for me to go to snapnames and backorder. Well, since I am not telling the name, worth can only be fixed on the Ovt and google results, I guess. Also, I am not interested to play snapname games taking it to auction.

Also two questions about snapnames. Say somebody backordered a name and nobody else did, in that case, will snapnames play foul and act as another bidder to make profits?

If a particular name is not backordered at all through snapnames, in that case, will snapname try to register that name any way?

I know these are many questions, but I do not know the answers.

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi Gamehouse,

There is a lot that goes into researching a domain :)

Is SnapNames worth it ? ... Well, yes I use them. But the thing to remember is that youmight as wellput it on as many back orders as you can get, which will increase your chances of grabbing a domain.

Even if the service does go into an auction, it was the service that grabbed it ... So ordering it elsewhere would not have any effect.

I know there are a lot of rumours about shill bidding by these services, but in 5 years of trading I can honestly say that I have not really come across anyproof, most seem to be by people that are sore about being outbid.

A domain is only worth to you what you are willing to pay, if someone else is willing to pay more then that is up to them.

If you want to know my opinion of the domain then PM me the name, in case you are worried that I will try to grab it then hopefully enough people here know me well enough to put your mind at rest. If not I will happily provide you with a list of all the domains I have on back order so you can easily tell if it is already there.

I pride myself on my ethical approach to business and would not try to rip you off.

Wishing you all the best.

Richard

Gamehouse,

I have never used Snapnames but know something about them. I believe their backorder charge is $60 dollars. If you are the only one who backordered the name in question and Snap is able to procure the name then you get it for $60. If they do not get it you pay nothing. If others backordered it then it goes into an auction where the $60 dollars goes to your intial offer. Any increases depends on you. If the bid increases past what you are willing to pay you pay nothing and someone else gets the name for whatever amount they bidded. All this is explained properly on their website, please review. At the minimum you could pick up the name for $60 dollars. Is it worth $60 to you? Are you will to go higher for it? Domain Sage is correct in saying it is all about what you are willing to pay in the end. Really, appraisals can be a throw of a dart sometimes. Although there are criteria used by appraisers everything can go out the window from the norm from what most would call a crazy buy, but it happens all the time. Hope this helps. Don't feel bad for not knowing the answers to everything. I started only a few months ago and I have learned alot since. NP is a great place to ask questions from experienced domainers. If you hang around enough, and explore the site, you will pick-up more than you can handle.
