Unstoppable Domains

is .secure a .com, .net, .org, .everything killer?

The premise of this extension is that it is 100% protected, so no viruses or spam like you see on .com, .net, .org etc. I would think it has the potential to create an internet status symbol and if they ensured security properly, you could see big companies use it ie facebook.secure instead of facebook.com.

If this were the case than .secure would be the most respected tld and all others would be second rate.

Thoughts?

nothing is an anything killer, way too extreme. in theory you can come up with any idea that works if you get everyone to agree to it. nothing would ever be completely free of viruses/spam once it becomes the normal thing.

.secure will fail, fall, and be so unused, it's sad. It'll make .cc look godly. So answering you: No lol Hell no.

Setting aside the fact that viruses, malwares, hackers, and spammers, are all BLIND to any kind of "status symbols", if your idea is to name all "secured" servers in the planet under this .SECURE extension, it's going to be self-defeating. The name itself, is going to be a MAGNET to all forms of criminal sabotage.

Naming your secure server like CITIBANK.SECURE, is like creating a folder in your computer and naming it "My Secret Files".

LOL... why do people always expect a dotcom killer. There won't be one.

It reminds me of .pro when it was launched it 2002, it used to came bundled with a SSL certificate. But that has never been a strong selling point.

.secure is another TLD dumb that does nothing that other TLDs cannot. DNSSEC zone signing, TLS etc are not novel concepts. Like .tel, .secure has failure written all over it.

If credit card processors or governments cannot keep hackers out, the question begs how a domain extension is going to provide any 'protection'.

All of these vanity, customized, specialty tld's are garbage.

People always forget the PUBLIC has a short memory span.
They forget a million times more then they remember

This is why .COM is king and will remain king because its not only simple buts its burned into the public's brain.

Other then some country codes that are popular to the public in some countries, .com falls under the almighty motto...KISS!
Keep It Simple Stupid!

.com = Simple :)

I still see 0% hope for the extension. The big dogs might want it but I doubt you'd ever see any other sites using it. Besides, how would .secure REALLY be secure? Sorry but there really is no way.

Since .com was the first & is the most popular extension, I don't see .secure trumping it. If you notice most tablets & all apple ipads have the ".com" button which concur that it's the most popular & strongest domain extension.

I read it and I disagreed with it.
I suggest you think before you accuse someone of spamming.
If you dont want to read other peoples thoughts, then dont ask for them.

So after you purchased your .SECURE domains, the same registry rolls out a new extension called .TRUSTED. The premise is, yes your servers are secured. But can you be "trusted"? You need to "defensively" buy an equivalent .TRUSTED domains just to make sure.

After purchasing .SECURE and .TRUSTED domains, the same registry says you need your website certified by the industry! So you need to "defensively" buy an equivalent .CERTIFIED domains (not surprisingly run by the same registry).

That's how adult domain owners get their assess screwed multiple times. They end up buying .XXX, .SEX, .ADULT, and .PORN.

Out of desperation, screwed up domain owners end up buying .WTF domains.

My thought is if .secure was first to market this kind of an extension they might try to get a patent to prevent other similar extensions from occurring.

Looks like their market is going to be banks....

What will a .SECURE domain cost?
.SECURE domains provide premium value to registrants and their customers and will be priced accordingly.

Translation of all this: .secure will cost a lot of money and isn't for regular websites.

And they'll have competition from .bank and banks like Chase and Bank of America may just use .chase and .bofa. IMO if there's any change it will be towards their own .brand.

Pardon me if this sounds mean but are you really that dumb? I mean, I've been here at NP for 6, 7 or so years and I've read some pretty half-assed thins but you are just ridiculous. Are you actually trying to tell ppl that the masses likely misunderstood he meaning of .com & preferred another extension? Really, smack yourself and see if any sense comes to you. Or else we can play along. "Yeah, ppl mistook .com and preferred .co and .ws better." We'll completely sidestep the fact that thy weren't commercially available or existing) back then. Whatever makes you feel like less of a moron.

Now, I was a mod/SL here (I quit) & I know to be courteous. I'm not being mean but instead, I'm calling you out. Where is your evidence? Where is your justification that .secure will ever be 1% of what even a .info is? Hell, .secure will be as utterly WORTHLESS, POINTLESS & WASTEFUL as all over vanity extensions. That's not opinion--that's fact. What would make .secure any better than .com??! How can .secure prevent shady companies & immoral business practices? You're looking down the right road without realizing it forks. Stop running your mouth about how ppl misunderstand you. You're perfectly obvious to everyone.

Did you know .museum exists? Or .cat or .aero? Ha, .secure will become their disowned brother. Hell, it might marry .name someday.

yup and i'm sure when .com came out people thought it stood for .commodore
