Is it okay for a buyer to pull out after a price is agreed etc?

Hello,
I just had a buyer pull out of a deal. We had already agreed a price, and I'd sent the payment details (etc)? The buyer was from here.

I'm just wondering if this is acceptable or not? I don't want to rant or seem biased, I'm just checking if leaving negative iTrader feedback is a normal thing to do in this situation?
Thanks,
Tristan

No, it is not acceptable in my book.

Once both parties agreed that's legally binding.

Deals do fall threw and it's never fun for the Buyer or Seller.

Legally wise, there are things that can be done, but it's up to the buyer or seller if they want to spend the legal fee's etc. Normally the easiest thing to do, is leave the proper trader feedback, make a post about what happened and explain, so other members do not run into the same thing.

Unacceptable. I advise discussing the issue directly with a moderator before leaving a negative iTrader or posting anything specific.

Okay thanks for the comments all :)

I just contacted the moderator of the board I sold the domain in; I'll see what comes of it :)

Absoultely you should leave negative iTrader, in fact, I would say it's mandotory. If a deal has been agreed to & they pull out or just ignore you after several PMs, they deserve it.

I'll be sure to then :)

My only concern is that I'll then be left negative feedback (even though I've done nothing wrong), although I've contacted a staff member here so hopefully their insight will be helpful :)

Maybe you should alert other members about that buyer who pulled out after the price was agreed.

IMO once a deal has been finalized then it should certainly be completed as that is where trust comes in.

I've just had this happen here as well (this week). The seller had an auction which stated the high bid after 48hrs elapsed would win the name. The seller then contacted me and said they wanted appraisals before they gave up the name. I am taking the advice from this thread and putting it to use. Thanks all :)

I will do; I've contacted the relevant staff member about this, and after talking to the buyer he's thinking over things. Although I will be almost definitely be alerting other members about this buyer :)

Definitely not acceptable.

Is it legal? I asked the same question in this thread but didn't get any useful replies. That situation was a private deal, not through a forum - and the company (a name 99% of the members of this forum would recognize) still wants the domain but doesn't want to honor the agreed upon price.

Legal or not, its a bad way to do business :td: !

Have you asked the buyer why he chose not to follow through with his purchase? Is it a lack of funds, something which may perhaps be easily solved, or has he lost interest in the domain he previously offered to buy?

I don't like leaving negative iTraders myself (and never have left a single one in all my trades here). It hurts the buyer's reputation, perhaps permanently. There may be better ways to go about this... Trying to understand where it's coming from. Is this a new member who rightly deserves a **BEWARE** listed at the top of his recent transactions or are we talking about a member here with many previous perfectly handled transactions that just buckled for the first time?

Perhaps he'd be willing to meet you half way? Willing to give you compensation for your lost time (it's happened to me)? If the buyer shows remorse, is willing to pay some compensation for his actions, and it sincerely appears to be a one time thing, I'd consider letting it slide.

As for the "negative retribution", no worries - Namepros isn't eBay and leaving negative TRs without just cause (as the buyer leaving one in this case would clearly be doing) is grounds for suspension/deletion of his account.

Thanks for the input :) One of the staff members has contacted him, and it's apparently due to lack of funds (although he bought another one of my domains at the same time - i.e. he PMed me twice to buy two domains, from separate sales threads).

I do think that he's a fairly new buyer, although to have no real warning that he may back-out (even "I may not have the funds right away; is that okay?" etc would have been fine) is a bit annoying.

As for your comments about negative feedback/reputation, I know what you are saying and I do sort of agree :)

However the buyer hasn't shown remorse about pulling out. I won't go into details (I can PM you, as a staff member, some details if you want) although it's clear that he's not concerned about pulling out.

Thanks,
Tristan
