It may be just me, but I am absolutely astonished at the amount of horrible .mobi names that are being registered? What the hell? People are registering words that have several other extensions available and arent even relative to a mobile in any way. It is getting way out of hand. I have regged 1 .mobi in the last 2 weeks. I still routinely check availability and it seems just about everything is registered lol. Im sure there are a few unturned rocks here and there, but this is ridiculous. Just because some speculators went a little crazy doesnt change the fact that there is a lack of user base. Its not like the PS3 or Wii, where everyone is camping out over night to get their greasy little fingers all over them. Those are the type of things that acheive an instant user base. .Mobi may take 3 years to come to practical use. I am very worried about the vast majority of new domainers that are spending alot of money because they see names in DN Journal etc. Not everyone has the money to sit and wait for a user base. I realize that is the name of the game. But I can't help but shake my head when I read please appraise thishorriblename.mobi, or geuss what I bought, cityinthemiddleofnowhere.mobi , yours for only $1000. I refrain from negative comments as much as i can, but this has to stop. I think this is a clear indication that there should be a License or something you have to qualify for to buy more than 20 domains. It would eliminate alot of horrible regs! It would also curb fraudulent activity as it would allow ICANN to more effectively cut out fraudulent Domainers. I realize they would lose revenue because no one would register the millions of horrible names every year, but they could charge for the license to make up for it(no i don't want to pay >:( ). I don't know if this would really help or not LOL. Just a thought, stop the madness! :tri:

most ridiculous thing I have ever read. Maybe a better idea would be for people to mind their own business and leave other people alone

And how does this affect you? If people want to register "worthless" names, they should be free to do so.

yeah, people like to speculate on speculative things.

You're absolutely correct domainacrobat

Most people are thinking the same thing ..most understand .mobi auction was orchestrated.. it was a PROMOTION

A way to HYPE up something that could never stand on it's own

Choice

people have their right in choosing the names they want to register........no body can dictate what others should buy/sell.........therefore you should leave that decision to them and not force your choice on them...........may be you are feeling the heat of competition...........

there have been a ton of horrible mobi names that have been registered, but there have also been millions of horrible .com, .net, etc names that have been registered over the years too. I think the most important thing in domaining is to have common sense but some people dont and never know what to look for in a domain name beofre they reg it. It doesnt bother me though seeing all the bad names out there, they are just trying to make some money just like everybody else even though they are wasting it.

Whether, ultimately, your stance proves correct or not ... I applaud you for bravely stating your opinion here in the present, and, in my view, your heart / passion is in the right place, IMHO (having a genuine concern for new domainers (and their wallets and pocketbooks)! :hearts: :imho:

Well Jeff I doubt the op has a real concern for those domainers and if there is IMO that concern is misplaced with people starving and homless in the world. SO disingenuous at the least and beyond reprehensible if that is where ones concern lies. Of Course IMO

I am not "bothering" anyone in paticular, and I am minding my own business by not giving negative comments on peoples threads. I never insult anyone specifically and I don't rain on peoples parade. Fine if you think its the most ridiculous thing you ever read, then you maybe it would be better if you mind your own business, as you put it. I was just thowing out interesting and controversal concepts.

yeah, people like to speculate on speculative things.

Yes speculation is a large part of the business, i was proposing people do it in a more educated productive manner. So we can all be better off.

its called natural selection, the idiots will go broke very quickly and leave the business

Like I said its all part of the game, I fully understand that, but alot of newbies don't and invest massively without the right information.

I agree people should have the right to buy and sell as they please. But even in real estate you must get a lisence. I did say it was just a thought. Just so everyone understands who I am, I dont feel competition with domains. For me buying domains is fun. I do make money from domains and it is fun. I do have a competive side but I would rather save that for sports or in my real profession. I feel no need to hate on any domains, I want everyone to be more educated and hopefully then they could make better choices. In my original post I did accomodate everyone who wants to buy a domain, I just said for anyone who wants buy 20 or more names to resell as a business. Anyway, I am not serious about implementing any rules, i personally am against censorship, I was just hoping people would make better choices so we could all benefit.

LOL you must have no IDEA! I am one of the most frequent posters in .mobi LOL. I have 15 or so .mobis that I love dearly. I bought them while everyone was in the "im not so sure phase" when they were more expensive. If you want to submit a comment maybe you should do some research first. If I insulted you that means you registered some pretty bad .mobi names that everyone told you were bad. Just so you know, I constantly look at all TLDs with no inhibitions about buying any as long as they are great. I have made 2 offers on aftermarket .mobis. I think Jeremy Padawer is doing a great job, I keep tabs on all of his sales - I originally contacted him about jeremy.net to make an offer on ebay and recomended he join NAMEPROS. He is a real pro making a re-appearance into the game, I wish more people would have read his threads about buying only top-notch pre registered .mobis and paticular high quality names. Don't take it personally. As for the rule changes, I sure hope you are joking about saying "More importantly you could not make it happen" If you seriously think I was serious about atempting to contact them and try to make it a reality then you are not that smart. Obviously it is merely a comment. Sorry if you take offence to this thread.

First off I said a group of .mobi domainers not all .mobi domainers and because you post alot does not change you were criticising a lot of .mobi domainers if they were asking for your opinion then I apologize but if not I don't understand the blanket criticism.

I only own 1 .mobi LIF.mobi I am not that interested in .mobi I just don't lile when people make claims that names are horrible when you don't know what they may do with them or they should get a license. Plenty of names that made no sense in bad exts have become big bigoo.ws when first regged I am sure someone would have been what? del.icio.us another example so without knowing what people are doing with domains I don't know how people just make a blanket criticism.

PS I know you could not make that happen obviously was just replying to that line on implementing .

this is a free forum, free to voice concerns. Of course the more crapy names registered, the better price for those who got better names.

Very amusing thread. a name is only as crappy as the highest bidder deems so

I think the original poster brings up some points. I sometimes see the list of names registered in .mobi or any extension for that matter. A good majority of them make absolutely no sense. I don't get why they would even waste their money.

I think people who get insulted by the post are just being defensive based on what they have. If someone spends a good amount on .anything, it is natural to want & defend it.

lol. This is great. I agree, some people are out of their mind regging some of these .mobi's - Ive refused to and have stayed away from these domains altogether as I believe there are better investments out there. However, should people need a license to purchase domains? No, dont be silly. I repect your posts DomainAcrobat and find them very insightful - however the license idea is a bust.

I think that the people you are referring to will be out of the game come next year when its time to renew and their a little bit wiser. No License required.
