I have never purchased a .ws name but there is one I like that has very good overture and the .com version of it would be a dream to own.

What are your thoughts on this? Thanks.

Probably not worth it.. .ws is pretty much worthless to me. Some disagree. If the .ws has ovt with extension, then YES buy though

When you say with extention, does that mean you type in music in overture and you get all of the other results below it?

I think the keyword has to be real premium... .ws has been around for years but I still don't like it much. Just my feeling. I would rather go with a decent .com combo.

.ws is quite a nice tld, short and easy to remember, best thing is there is atill a few dictionary names available.

In just a few months the hype over .ws seems to have dropped considerably.

If you've got the cash, I think .tv is the Real Future.

I'd almost prefer .ws to most other ccTLD's, and the price is quite affordable. I've had good luck with the few I've owned.

Hi all,

http://net-rep.net/wst_page10.html
It's very clean to state that:
.ws----
TLD for generic use, stands for web site---not only for "West Samoa".
The reg fee already low to about $10.
website.com sold $750000.00 in 2005.---mean website is not bad.
webcam.ws sold recently for $1300.
some members sold lots keyword .ws for $xxx. (go check old .ws thread)
It's very undervalue now.

Someone post:
"(And yes .ws is a ccTLD ,but is now promoted as WebSite)"---You can find any .ws register-- such as godaddy.com---Tell you that .ws stands for website.

"And for the Information of all the Armchair experts who couldn't find it on a map if they looked for it. The Country "Western Samoa" does not exist.
The Country's Name is "SAMOA" ,and has been for years
(yes ,DAZE,1997 before most of us even got into domaining.
So why use "Western Samoa")."

Just share info to you.

So make your own judgement!

Thanks for looking!

Bill

It's actually the extension for a small island country called (Western) Samoa, but to make a long story short - a couple entrepreneurs got involved and have marketed it as "Web Site".

You can read the story here >> http://worldsite.ws/about.dhtml

Wow, I thought it always meant .WebSite

This is a case where the ext has been marketed so aggressively that I think the general public (those who have heard of it) think it means .WebSite... domainers are probably some of the few who have seen past the hype to the reality. Overall, I think .ws has a good solid future as a long-term investment.. but I don't see it surpassing .de or .us, for exapmple, any time soon.

I held off for a longgggggg time on .ws. I think I now have about 13 of them, and all are strong one word keywords or VERY stong two word keywords. For example:
antique.ws
images.ws
instruments.ws
digitalpictures.ws
dates.ws

By contrast, I have only 2 .cc domains (employee.cc and employees.cc) However, com/net/org/info/biz/us make up about 98% of my portfolio. My experience shows very little type-in traffic on .ws, so the only value is development or sale in my opinion.

Similar to what AdoptableDomains said, I don't think .ws even with good keywords is very good and I actually put it on par with .cc. You can still reg some great domains with .ws and .cc, but you have to really develop the sites to get good traffic.

And to answer the question from the original post, any domain is worth registering if you're planning on developing it and it's easy to remember.

For Generic names .ws could be well.

I have a few keyword .ws that did very well right from the start and without any promotion from me they made it to the first page of the search results.. can't mention the domain here and I no longer have a site up in any case. But .ws can do very well.
