Is anyone else pulling out of Moniker?

So I'm not as big of a domain owner as I use to be, I use to have over 300 domains at Moniker and have sold many of those or let some expire. I feel that this is good business for Moniker as I have gotten them at least 20-30 new customers paying their full asking price.

Lately their site keeps loading slow or having issues as it is no longer hosted at RackSpace. Now all of their nameservers for dns hosting are all in the same location (it use to be distributed like enom). Their support is slow and doesn't seem to be very helpful. My account rep is a ghost and hasn't contacted me like I was promised.

Needless to say I have started pulling the last 55 domains I have with them over to other accounts at namecheap/dynadot.

Can anyone else recommend a registrar that actually cares about their customers?

I heard Fabulous is great but you need to be accepted in their parking program to get an account

I believe you can start a registration account without their parking program. I have an account there without the parking.

So far what I can see from the feedbacks are that Name and Dynadot would be an alternative. As far as godaddy there's no way I will put my domains with them.

If there's other alternatives I would look into them and start transferring.

Not wishing to divert from the original post but the one problem I have found so far with Name is that I do not get any email notification from them for expiring domains.
I don't know if anyone else has this problem or if it is just me?

currently there are no near perfect registrar for Domainers :

---------------------------------------------------
Godaddy

+ large registrar
+ an Kind of professional support
+++ You can confirm transfers !!!!! ... With that you can transfer domain to other registrar in less than one day
+ price

- Site
- Interface (Domain Management) ... its (i call it) java-style
- Feeling you are 1 of 25 000 000 Customers
- Support (Ticket-System ?)

--------------------------------------------------------------

Moniker
+ large registrar
+ personal support (you have an .... <- person for you ;) )
+ price

- Interface
- If your ..... is on holiday
- Sometimes communication
- Are currently part of something (i dont know is it going to be better or not for them)

------------------------------------------------------

NameCheap
+ Site (clean, simple)
+ Domain Management Interface (near perfect)
+ Very good implementation of own Domain Market Place !!!

o Price

- Price
--- Name of Registry (I dont want to sell domain for $1000.00 and tell buyer "yes its on NameCheap" ;) )

---------------------------------------------------------

Zoki, that's a great point about NameCheap's name. I know firsthand of a group that refused to go with NameCheap, despite all its features and reliability, because of its name alone.

Very accurate list of pros/cons. :tu:

I've been with Moniker for over two years and don't plan on changing.

The ability to seamlessly list your domains on SnapNames.com is a huge advantage.

I have been just registering my domains where ever it's cheapest. I then transfer over to the hosting company that my bisseness site is hosted at. I think after I transfer my domains they rest with TUCOWS. So far this has worked best for me. As my experience grows maybe I will find this is not suitable but like I said it does seem to work best right now. Wondering what you all think about TUCOWS.

I'm moving mine out of Moniker when renewals come up, nothing against them ..just trying to have less registrars to deal with at renewal times.

From a practical viewpoint they are twice the price as most places and I have found their support is too slow.

From a moral point of view I don't like the fact that they keep all the expired names they want for their own portfolio - for that reason I do not trust them as a registrar for my domains so I'm moving them all elsewhere.

Good luck with them and make sure you keep on top of renewals...just incase they "forget" to remind you :)

I have some ethical questions about name.com and their reliability.

Moniker used to have the best customer service in the business before they got bought out by Kanoodle a few years ago. Now its seems to go further and further downhill. I've had $80 in my affiliate account for over a year and can't seem to get it paid out.

I have never had an issue with the Moniker interface. It's a bit different than most registrars but imho...Godaddy is by far the worst interface to deal with. I would say Namecheap might be one of the easiest but I have been very happy with some of the sorting options that I get at Moniker. Example is the ability to create custom displays which I use to post sales threads here with only the domain names, reg date, and exp date as per the sales thread requirements. Godaddy requires me to create an export to do that. I am not even sure that's possible with Namecheap.

Oh the directi interface it pretty oddball too but it's sufficient.

I used to have 500 domains with Moniker, but after spending many thousands of dollars with them, and sending many new customers, not having any discount to renew my domains last month made me transfer hundreds of them to Fabulous. Not just because of the price, but because of my emails not been replied.
At Fabulous I sent several emails and they are answered within minutes. I hope they continue this way for a long time, and they will have a customer that is always buying and renewing lots of domains.
Some of my other domains are at my Godaddy reseller account. I paid hundreds of dollars for several years of their membership.

If you have PayPal, see if you can set it that way. They can also send it via
check. (according to their affiliate system which I just checked, anyway...)

No other way than to have a number of accounts with different registrars, but I tend to consolidate a good number of my domains with Namecheap - so easy to use, so efficient, so reliable.
However, for some other domains, I am now considering Dynadot - rather pleasant to use too, and I have read so many good reviews of them. Not yet decided.
For some specific TLDs, Network Solutions (which I had completely given up for several years) remains a surprisingly attractive solution - but only for very specific TLDs, otherwise I wouldn't even consider them.
And finally, for premium domain names, I choose Namebay. Based in Europe, and I think this can definitely be a plus in some cases, considering some recent trends (another good European option, according to a number of my friends, is Gandi, but I have never used them). Only for premium domain names, however, since they are more expensive.

Dynadot is simply the finest registrar out there.
Check them out. You'll fall in love with their interface.

Moniker's is and has been my registrar of choice. I don't find it to be slow, personally, although that would probably be frustrating if you did. I don't need much customer service, I like their interface and feel my domains are safe there. I also like the easy interface with Snapnames.

I will say this: I absolutely hate GoDaddy's cluttered UI, but am glad to see they finally integrated godaddy.com with tdnam.com.

ripley.

I didn't have many at Moniker to begin with, but was willing to switch the majority over given their past reputation in the domaining world.

BUT

The past year I've had completely terrible service when an issue arose. Multiple channels were tried to resolve, including PM's to Monte here (he did respond, saying someone would be getting in touch...which NEVER happened) :yell:

No way am I going to continue to support a registrar that can't support my minimal needs.

Mine are migrating out. Too bad.

GoDaddy has been great to me. I even get occasional calls from them to see if they can help with anything (and I don't have an assigned rep).
Great prices AND great service = my business

Yeah, its a little annoying playing the discount code game, but that's a small thing to deal with. I find the interface pretty simple, really. But I've been used to it for awhile. I think directi has the most "kwirky".

For anyone looking for an alternative registrar I would encourage you to check out Rebel.com and I would be happy to answer any questions you might have.
