I recently sold a domain through a very well known domain newsletter, its been one month now without any payment.

I consider that long enough without payment and consider the deal over, what are your thoughts?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

30 days without payment should be enough time,
unless the newsletter tells buyer they have longer...
But that should be up to seller ultimately to determine when a sale is void!

I give 'em 3 days- will extend to 7 if they say in advance the need it, on a case by case basis.
Someone with no feedback who registered last month- they pay in 3 days, period...

If they can't pay within this amount of tiem, then they aren't as serious about buying as I am about selling and I will move on and relist instantly.

Dongsman, I believe they have a 30 day "exclusive agreement", the newsletter, so that's why im quoting a month.

About 4 days in we agreed on a price and it's now 30 days since that, so i feel i have been more than fair.

Yes anyone else a week is ample IMO.

Yup. If you sold a name 'in that newsletter' and haven't received payment within the proscribed period of time, forget about that loser crawfish buyer and move on. 30 days goes beyond "more than fair" and into the realm of a ridiculous period of time to wait.

I'm pretty sure the "30 days" policy has more to do with internal business matters of the newsletter publisher and nothing to do with actually allotting a buyer a full month to pay, as if a month is somehow a 'reasonable' period of time.

Hate non-performing trading partners with the burning fire of 1000 suns. Not because of the money, but because they waste time which (to me, anyway) is more precious than money.

Two things, maxeaus...

(i) The trading terms with the newsletter are 'exclusive' (to them) for 30 days....That means, of course, you are free to negotiate with any other party re the name after that 30 day period is up.

(ii) If the 'buyer' hasn't coffed up after 30 days, then, its probable he isn't going to....Again, I'd say you're free of any obligation to sell to that buyer, after that length of time.

I suggest you consider yourself free to deal in that domain any way you want, as of now.

...But, at the same time, I'd be asking the newsletter what their feedback re the 'buyer' is, as well - and, if the money does materialise, then, you can always sell it to that buyer....But, you're not obliged to now, imo.

My opinion - 1 month is WAAAY too long for a payment.

When I buy a domain or commit to buying a domain (or anything for that matter) It is very important to me to take care of that payment, push, transfer pronto! So, unfortunately I expect that same behavior from others too.

I would have to say communication is the key.

If someone just offered me lets say $500 - 1K+ for a domain, I understand everyone doesn't have that kind of $ in their PayPals all of the time but if you offered it, and knew it would take a week or so, and communicated that with me, I would let you know if I could wait or not. So as long as we both accepted those terms, then It is successful for both parties.

But, I have to admit, I am impatient as hell. If I dont even hear from the buyer in a few days, then I am ready to move onward and upward.

So my answer to you is One month is definitely long enough to take your domain and list it again.

You are definitely more patient than I am...LOL

Good Luck Maxeaus.

If they agreed on a price with you and have not paid within the first 30 days, it looks like they might have backed out of the purchase.

Sorry about that inconvenience.

You have been so patient so i say you to at least communicate with them once So, that you know what the actual situation is. It is not good to wait for so long as you did so.Try to communicate once.

Made a sale at the Domain fest auction took "buyer" nearly six weeks to make a mid $xxxx payment which I subsequently received.

I also expected the "sale" to fold but I was wrong.I was in regular contact with the auction house though.
