What does that do to this biz? Does it make the .com even that much better? Or obsolete? As of now extensions have no bearing on search results. But what happens when a domain is "kendras.daycare". Will it impact Serps then?

Good luck trying to get these

Once again the blatantly obvious ones will be fought over and/or held by the registry. And the domainer that guess 'blatantly' wrong will be burning cash.

There wont be enough domainer money out there to buy out these extensions. Will see people trading whole word. whatever like we saw dot infos

Endusers will be trained "if you cant buy a dot com then only hand reg the new extensions"

Domainers have been buying anything dot org like its dot com. The new extensions I believe going to cause fringe dot orgs to drop like crazy.

With this many extensions there more ideas then money to purchase them so go light if you're jumping in.

Godaddy offers pre-registration of new gTLDs mostly for $40 (same price as .tv domains)
Does that mean that the regular price will be $40 or this is some kind of a special offer for the first buyers?
$40 for registrations/renewals seems lower than expected

Probably been already said, didn't read the whole thread, but pretty sure businesses are only going to buy any of the new gTLDs if they own the .com and can re-direct to it. Bad example, but could see shopping.com buy shop.now and do a re-direct.

I'm tempted, but all good ones will be gone by the time us small time guys get to participate, which is probably a good thing. The only gTLD I would buy is for my name and use it for email. Can only see GEO gTLDs succeeding (moderately).

Don't waste your money on redirecting gtlds to your .com... No one is typing superstore.bike lol

There are probably more .co domain names that are diverted/redirected to .com or other TLD websites than there are actively developed .co websites. This kind of redirection is exactly what happens in new TLDs.

And if you look at the history of some of those backing these new gTLDs, they were rather active in Domain Tasting.

.info on the first of January for the last few years:

Don't know if that will work. The target market for many of these new gTLDs is the USA. That means that they will be up against the .com TLD.

Domainers have been buying anything dot org like its dot com. The new extensions I believe going to cause fringe dot orgs to drop like crazy.
It is already happening. The .info gTLD is losing registrations. The .eu ccTLD has stalled as German registrations have fallen. The .asia sTLD is losing thousands of domains each month.

With this many extensions there more ideas then money to purchase them so go light if you're jumping in.
It seems that there is only one constant in the launch of a new TLD - the small domainers get screwed and the registry and its cronies make money on high value keyword domains.

I understand. .co and .cm makes sens beacause it can be a typo. They want to protect their domain. But .whatever.... I think its like 1999 everyone's freaking out. Businesses will want to buy every domains. They need to protect their brand. But In fact its just a joke.

2000 came and nothings happened.

I see new gtlds registrars making money. Most investors.failing .

Have you spotted the gtld in the last phrase? Lol

That's not the point you were trying to make.

A handful of sex crime domains being blocked each month in the UK isn't going to affect the marketplace.

Baby steps, once .com's start to be filtered and .adult, .sex and .porn are live you watch, there will be public support to take adult extensions out of .com and into adult extensions.

The majority of the public don't know about .xxx, when they do, then....

The public loves porn on .com which is why the industry is massive. The outcry will come from domainers who invested in .adult and got burned...

I think the outcry will come from women's groups, family safe groups and religious groups. I think it will be a very slow transition but an inevitable one.
