I finally had an interesting and illuminating long phone call with Afternic this morning after a useless phone call with Godaddy the night before and it should make a big difference to most of you and hopefully it will make a big difference to me. I am posting this in the beginners section because I suspect many regulars of Namepros already know this.
To begin with if you Register a Domain on Godaddy, that Does Not Mean it will be automatically registered on Afternic to sell. You need to do several things.
1. Open an Afternic Account (Afternic.com),
2. Change the Godaddy Nameservers to ns1.afternic.com & ns2.afternic.com. Those are the default nameservers on Godaddy's page. Depending what landing page you use that may automatically change again which is fine as long as they are pointed to Afternics servers. Just ignore this as you don't have to worry about that.
3. Even though you changed the Nameservers, the Domains will not Automatically be listed by Afternic. This is one of the things I screwed up. You Must Always Add Your New Domain to your Afternic Listing! AFTERNIC DOES NOT ALWAYS DO THIS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN YOU CHANGE NAMESERVERS FROM GODADDY! I recommend if you have an Afternic Account review it to see what Domains are in it and if something is missing add them to your account.
4. This is the Biggest Mistake I Made. If You want an Afternic Landing Page that Lists Buy In Price, Make An Offer and Lease to Won options instead of just Buy It Now, choose Custom Landing on the Afternic Landing Page Options. I made the mistake of just using the Buy It Now only Landing Page which hopefully could have caused lack of Interest. The Lease to Own option lets buyer have the option of paying in equal monthly payments for a time period you specify though Afternic may impose a set period based on the amount. If the buyer defaults, you get full domain ownership back and keep what you've been paid. See my exampe below. Before this my page just listed the Buy It Now Price Only.
Hopefully these basics will make the whole Afternic Process Better for You. If You have any questions regarding what I just said or on Afternic, call Afternic at 866-351-9586. They only have weekday Business Hours as Far as I Know. They're not 24-7 like Godaddy.
Good luck!
