As reported by Elliot Silver the dispute.com sale did not go through at $65,000 but rather $38,000. The unfurling of the story and subsequent comments on DomainInvesting.com tell a lot. It also seems that GoDaddy needs to make some changes. Joe Styler who works for GoDaddy left a comment: The reason for default was not that there were not legitimate bids. Remember that the expired domain: ¨dispute.com¨ speaks for itself, now there is a dispute around the bids
For some reason the previous owner did not want that domain in his portfolio anymore, too many disputes around that domain. And 38k is a very high Price for that domain, there are too Little posible ways to use that domain for end users. Probably the bidder of the 65k realize that, and regrets his bid, so he refused to pay.
Everybody goes crazy with the Expired Domains auctions and make nonsense bids just to win the auction, then the next day, they wake up and realize the BIG mistake they have made with high bids for an average domain name. Not all the 1 Word .coms have Value for End users. End users dont care if its a 1 Word .com, they just want a good domain name for there business.

of course endusers just want good name for the biz.. but it just so happens that 1word makes for better business names... I think we all know why.

that being said, of course not all 1word names are created equal. in fact, some are worth absoutely nothing too. personally, I find dispute not so bad.. with some nice applications in real world... but putting a price on "not so bad" can be more tricky... especially for resellers preparing to sell to endusers after.

imo

Thanks for the info.

Actually some countries have limits on amount of money a person is allowed to remit offshore especially when foreign exchange is involved to check money laundering.

But people that have the info should plan adequately on how to pay before bidding.
