Free escrow, most definitely.

The "listing fee per seller" is a good one.. it could start at like $10.00 then after each successful sale $1.00 is deducted from the price to a base rate of like $5.00 per new domain listed. Would encourage big portfolios, keep one time sellers and discourage time wasters..

A coincidence this posting is here today. I was just talking to someone about how we spend too much time looking for the one service that has everything we like...that we can't find.

My thoughts were, "Why can't we just build one?" It seems with all the talent in the domaining world we could put together something great.

I realize you can't please everyone all the time, but if we had a big consortium or co-op, we could sure throw some weight around in the domain world...and provide a great market place for our names.

It would take a while, and it would take some good planning/management, but would be worth it, I'll bet. Make some of the big boys nervous, too. Just a thought.

Let me be sure I understand you correctly - are you thinking charge a fee for the first completed transaction and then shave off a dollar for each additional transaction for the selling party. This would mean free listings and charging for completed transactions only? Is that what you were thinking?

There are lots of ways to structure payment. For example Ebay has their listing fee and then if you sell - the completed transaction fee realy adds up in a hurry.

thanks for the feedback

Forgot to put in my choice from your list: "other."

I would rather see very good parking/PPC integrated into the listing/selling service...one that paid 80% or more with payouts like Skenzo, included keyword searches and was picked up by search engines.

Mind you, you need a massive advertising spree to take the domains off afternic.

Here's the current ebay pricing model:

Insertion Fees
item priced at $10 to $24.99 = $0.60
item priced at $25 to $49.99 = $1.20
item priced at $50 to $199.99 = $2.40
item priced at $200 to $499.99 = $3.60
item priced at $500 or more $4.80

Final Value Fees
* item not sold = no fee
* items sold up to $25 = 5.25% of the closing value
* items sold at $25.01 to $1000. = 5.25% of the initial $25.00 ($1.31), plus 3.00% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 to $1,000.00)
* items sold for $1000 or more = 5.25% of the initial $25.00 ($1.31), plus 3.00% of the initial $25.00 - $1,000.00 ($29.25), plus 1.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($1,000.01 - closing value)

With this model the seller pays total fees of $20.36 for a name sold at $500 ... or $35.36 if the name sells for $1000. Or the total seller fees would be $72.86 for a name selling for $3000.

these prices seem awfully steep, especially when you consider these listings don't last long and few result in a sale

Are low insertion fees without a final value fee more attractive than NO INSERTION FEE with a steep final value fee?
Which sounds better?

$70 fees for a $3000 sale is very cheap, when it would b $300 or more with sedo, afternic and the others (10% of selling price).

Don't fall for that. eBay is trying to be everything for everybody and they use their monopoly power to kill off competitors.
I would say Afternic & Sedo are the best place to sell your names or otherwise you can park & sell your name like Fabulous & Namedrive.

Only bulk & cheap quality names will go through eBay.com

You need Newspaper coverage to make your auction take off.

eBay;s small print trading policy should never be overlooked.

I would disagree if you choose eBay as the best place to sell your names over traditional domain trading platforms.

eBay is the land of frauds. King of all frauds live in eBay.

I like free escrow. The parking thing with good payouts is another one I would pick. There is nothing like making money off your domains while waiting to sell them.

Fixed min. prices and Fixed fees will never be good
And What is wrong with a NORMAL free Market like any other Auction System
Free Escrow is Never "FREE" ,normal risk Management needed for Bad debts would mean some added expense . this Would need to be recouped by extra fees or charges :imho:

I think the biggest issue facing domain resellers is that it is all internal. Domain resellers selling to domain resellers.

The ONE thing that would bring better and greater value to this business is finding a way to include END USERS. Brandables have ZERO chance with trafficing domaineers. Find a way to sell branding domains to end-users and you have a great marketplace.

I agree. I would wager that most domains bought from domainers in the aftermarket are by other domainers. All of that leads me to believe that there are a very few number of actual end-users (on a % basis) buying the domains at retail value.
