Let's make some dreaming here.
Load your butt into Delorian and go back to 1995. Get out and start registering domains ;)
Let's assume that all LL.com and NN.coms are taken. What kind of domains will you jump on then?
Let your fantasy force be with you. :)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
when a lot of people would be fighting for mortgage, insurance and other domain, I'll peacefully buy Google and facebook.com.

Then today, we'd probably have Geegle and Bookface.com

standard easy lead generators for me...

Insurance
Loan
Mortgage
Credit

etc...

So I could make substantial income from selling off the leads while waiting for the ultimate end user.

I would register all continent names, countries, most popular cities, first and last common names, all available short meaningful words, plus the catchiest 2 and the word phrases.

After doing all this, I would have my body cryogenically frozen in time for 20 years. I would then wake up, anxiously check my registrar's account, and then realize in horror that I forgot to check the auto-renew button....

---edit---

And just to blow people's minds, I would take my portable mp3 player with me and tell people that in the future, media comes in a liquid form and you just pour it into that tiny little hole...

I wonder if in 20 years time there will be a thread asking if we could go back to 2015 what would we register and how différent it would be to what we have. Today is tomorrows yesterday. As someone once said "the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is today. Deep man. Oh and my money would all be losing value in .net lol.

I'd have registered my first name, LLL.com, along with every other premium LLL.com, assuming I had the money or credit :) The non-premium LLL.com, I'd leave for the Chinese to register :)

Interesting thread.

I think everything I'd of liked to register has already been mentioned.

I was just too late again for the second time :)

My first choice would've been -
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.com
..if was still available at the time!

Haha. Nice thread. :D

The assumption: that we are going back in time, and realizing the potential of domains for purposes of resale in the future.

So let's say that is the case...

I'd register short one word .coms, specifically the type with commercial value... e.g. product/service/business/finance/medical/travel/insurance related. Also first, last names, one word brandables, Leo.com, Network.com

LLL/NNN .coms- would also be on my list-but I'd register alimited amount compared to the above.

I would register the top 200 sales of all time to this point, just 200, so as to leave something for everybody else.

Are you asking us because you actually plan to travel back in time in a Delorean? And follow-up question.. Is your name Marty McFly? ;)

Aye! I hope he doesn't make out with his mom!

I would wait till all you guys got out at 1995, hang back, close the doors and head on back to 1985 where the real action would have been had !

i would grab the best type-in domains that i could find and wait for a few years to be able to park them and invest the revenue in numerics and LLL.com

Let's assume that all LL.com and NN.coms are taken. What kind of domains will you jump on then?

if i could register only 2 and the obvious ones like hotels.com, sex.com etc. are not available... i think poker.com + 360.com would give good results.

and too keep it purely numeric without using the alphabet 888.com and 360.com seem like a good choice.

Don't get upset, remember:

"This is absolutely the most exciting time we can possibly hope to be alive. And things are just starting" :)

Wait a minute. It would be a total waste of money registering anything in 1995 as you could only renew maximum 10 years into the future, and so it would have expired 10 years before you got back home.

Time travel doesn't fit well with domain registration. Better just go forward in time get a "historical" football scores book, come back bet on the games and get a steady ever increasing income for the rest of your life. (until one of these other time travelers screws with history and messes you up of course).

You're generous enough to let Chinese register those at reg fee :P

I would totally register the top 10 domains of today just to see what would happen. It blows my mind to think about what today's top Internet tech giants would be called and how they would be organized ... who would be the CEOs, who would steal whose patents or ideas, what would smartphones look like (Would they be called 'smartphones'?)

It would be that "Butterfly Effect", software and coding languages might be called something else ... and the funniest thing of all, the top 10 domains like Google and Yahoo I bought back in '95 would definitely not have the value they do today lol.
