If all extensions are registered for a domain except .US, does this mean that the .US will be a domain of value in the future? I have found a few of these, just wondering if I should reg. them. Trying to curb my domain buying.

the answer has to be 'it depends'. one of the siren voices that affects the domainer in addict mode is the the 1 remaining extension winking away in all its loneliness. it is sooo difficult to resist and all of us succumb at one time or another. it seems to be more attractive than if all the extensions are available apart from .com. if the name is a key word/2 word then going for an available .info/.org is an option, but I think that for .us you need to assess its value specifically with this extension and forget for a moment that all others are gone. stay 'curbed'....we are all praying for you....

Quite possibly. I know for my company name, I made sure that I didn't have to worry about someone else buying up the name, so I would have to pay someone off in the future. Being a domainer, I think about it the other way. If someone has registered other domains, and there is a possiblity that they might want this one down the road if it is getting a decent amount of traffic and it is built with the right content, BINGO!

Well, if this is the case and its what you want to hear, then no, it will not have value in the future ;)

Regardless -
All the best

if you have extra money to hedge your investment, you should go for it. I think this is similar to buying index mutual fund, i.e., you don't know whether each individual stock as long as they fit your criteria, it will not be a bad buy. I bet many years in the future, people would would agree with me such strategy has less risks with higher performance.

I recently did this with a domain name... Googlestore.us , I'm new to it all and I figured, well shit Google owns the other ones, this one has gotta be worth something. Then I find out the whole Trademark thing and it was pretty much useless.

So before you buy the .US, check to make sure whoever owns the other names doesn't have a TradeMark on the name.

This thread pushed me over the edge to register a one word .US I came across yesterday that was available, where all the other extensions were taken. I'm not the biggest fan of .US, but as of a few minutes ago I am now the owner of
GROOVES.US

My formula to avoid the temptation when I found only one available extension among all the others already registered is go to the com, net and org of such name.

If they are taken by someone who only has parked the domains, probably the name does not worth at all.

at least from my point of view
