Thanks, how long or where is a process example? Also is the name dropped into aution or just made public if the offender is not contacted?
The process goes more or less like this:
1. ICANN or someone tells the registrar of a domain with invalid WHOIS info.
2. The registrar will use every means possible to contact the registrant and its
contacts regarding it and give them a few days to respond.
3. If no response after a few days, the registrar suspends any access to the
domain to get the registrant's and/or contacts' attention.
4. If the registrant and/or contacts
do respond, they'll be asked to follow any
and all the registrar tells them to do to ensure the WHOIS details are updated
and this never happens again.
5. If the registrant and/or contacts
don't respond, the registrar will eventually
delete the name.
6. The deleted domain name will still follow its normal life cycle depending on
the extension's Registry.
If you want to read an extreme case, read my
blog entry about it.
