What exactly does alexa rank mean? Like my site has an alexa rank of 1,359,051, a few weeks ago it was more like 3 million. Is going down good? I have had traffic increase lately so I'm guessing it is a good thing.

What's an average alexa rank? What's a good one?

Thanks.

yes it's doing good congratulations. usually site crawled by alexa for the very first time starts at 5,000,000 then slowly climbs up with less and less number to it.

gurudaq.com values 100,000 ranks so long way to go.

but jumping from 3 million to 1 million is just awesome, you did a great job and you need to pat yourself in the back, but don't take it seriously though let alexa be your guide. :)

I know its heavily based on users that have the alexa toolbar. So do users that have that count for more visits or something?

It's not that they count for *more* visits, but that they actually do count for visits. The only people Alexa tracks are people with the actual toolbar installed....The population out there who have this toolbar installed is very small, and that's why it can be very unreliable unless you have a very low rank

Agree, dont take alexa rank too seriously, try out other methods to check your website popularity e.g. page rank and other popularity checking websites who go through the search engines and give you an analysis on how your site is performing in SEs

if you dont manipulate your own ranking by having your own alexa toolbar then it is quite accurate and the climb should match your stat.

remember that also staying put is climbing since so many more pages are added each day. way more that that die.

good for you.

i wouldnt rate a website based on alexa rank, its very easy to artificially inflate it.

While we're on the topic. I input a domain (an LLL.net) into Alexa and the traffic looked good but it was showing another domain (a .com). Does this mean the traffic is being redirected from the .net to the .com (or vica versa?). If I buy the .net am I likely to get the traffic listed on Alexa?

Thanks

alexa is good if used right but if you live by alexa you die by alexa.
