Back in July I managed to hand reg Cognacreviews.com and Latesttrance.com and sold both for a total of $225, within my first week of doing domain selling.

Afterwords it became harder to find good names for hand regs and I eventually just quit.

I'm looking to get back in the game now.

What type of names are you looking for?

I generally went for names based on how many google searches they had. Cognacreviews had 3k exact match searches which is why I said I was so lucky to find it. I think I could have got more than just $100 for it looking back.

Are you going to be going for .COM only now that you're back in domaining?

I felt so good the first time I got lucky that I did everything I could to put myself in position to get lucky again. I also took that approach with domaining.

So many people in the similar situation as you. Hard for individuals to make serious $$$$ regularly now. Big companies do this full time and have a team / automated software that scoops up good domains.

10+ years ago you could make a killing with domain selling, not anymore imo.

Yeah I figured that early on.

I'm just doing this for side cash anyway. I'll be pleased to earn a few $xxx a month from this.

I think finding good names is not the problem. The problem is to find people, who will think that the names are good + who will be able to pay the price you want. :)

I think finding a good name is harder for this main reason.

Most names are taken. The chance of getting a name with a measly 3k exact match searches(which I did) in 2013 is extremely slim.

I had a really good name for a hand reg with Cognac Reviews and it only took me 3 emails to get it sold. Other domains that were of lower quality didn't get any sale after 200 emails.

I haven't been active in domaining since I retired, but do play around abit with the domains I still have registered.. I can't see it being feasible in any shape or form for being a main source of income, as it was back in the late 90's early 2000's.. and then development in the early 2000's to mid 2006 or so..

But.. as you said.. you got lucky, and why can't you get lucky again?

There is not so much luck involved as a repeatable, reliable process for finding buyers who will pay more for good names.

Of course it's not that easy already, but it's not that impossible, still...

Yes, but still some people can earn some good money for a cool travel or at least a cool lunch!

For the vast majority of domainers, domaining is a very very expensive hobby. :|

Where did you sell them or how did the buyer contact you?

For Cognacreviews

I got the enduser from page 1 of google. I emailed the owner of the second placed site on the search and that was it.

For LatestTrance I had to go around the 15th page of Google and emailed him from there.

That's what I call an effective direct marketing! :D

BTW - did those pages have any SERPs in Google?

Yes the first site did but the second not as much.

Also I searched for keywords relating to the site name. For example for Latest Trance I 'd search for new DNB, dubstep, electro music etc.
