Ok, I'm at a crossroads here.
I have 2 products that are speculative domains (not currenty on the shelves yet, but definitely coming). Lets just say one of the 2 product's is dvd's as an example.
There is a combination of 4 reg's possible. 2 singular, and 2 plural.
There are 3 avail as a .net
There are 4 avail as a .tv.
What would you pick?
The "solution" is simple.
The amount of ideas, preparation, financial backing, design, marketing and other forms of work that is invested in a project of that scope will create the visibility of the site/channel to whatever demographic one intends to target. In essence, there is no "better" here. To determine which extension may appear more advanageous or more productive, you have to put certain other speculative observations in focus, just as what competition is the site up against and other factors.
My opinion, but just as all the extensions are as viable visually as .tv(even the lowly .info), the reverse is also true. This extension, although by its very acronym means visual, may be anything but. If the message that you want to relay to the visitor interests the party to purchase your product, your job is done. It is up to marketing to bring the visitors forth.
That being said, I have felt(and this has become more logical than emotional as of late) that this particular extension is a custom fit for the internet not so much as we know it now, but as we will know it. There have been many changes technologically apart from the extension, and somehow, for some reason, the .tv extension has not been left out in the shuffle. That is, again, not to say that the extension name is better or worse than .net or any extension.
This is only to say that the extension can now hold its own with all of them, of course depending on the expertise of those in the market.
Flip a coin on this one, dot stop. It's all good here. There appears to be a leveling of the playing field.
