I have $5,000 to invest in a domain business and I need some advice.

1. What are the best domains to invest in long term?

2. Where is the best place to get domain name bargains?

3. Are hand regs with my time?

Any and all advice is much appreciated for this new investor?

I would personally buy an LLL.com and hold out for the long term. Depends on your investment horizon, expectations...

All 3 questions are subjective, There is no one answer for any of these questions, just people's opinions.

And considering you created your account in 2007, you should already know the answers to your questions. However, you only have received 2 like in 8 years! I would say this is why you don't know the answers. I mean if you interacted more with other forum members you would have a better understanding of the domain industry.

Personally i don't fully trust members with zero or near zero likes, because it shows 1 of 2 things: They don't interact with forum members or contribute to the community, and or they only try to sell their domains here. (Selfish IMO)

I hope you take this as constructive criticism! Im being 100% honest, not trying to be rude at all. I know this advise has helped others get more involved.

That being said, i will give my opinion on your 3 questions:

1) 3 letter .com's , 4 letter .com's, Dictionary single words .coms', and domains that have high search results.

2) There is no one best place, everywhere you look, you can find a great deal if you have time.

3) It depends on the names you register, and is limited to YOUR imagination! When searching the drops and secondary marketplaces, you don't have to use your imagination... but your instincts.

Cheers!

Is it possible to buy a LLL.com for $ 5,000?

Yes

I paid $2,600 for one through sedo in January and flipped it...........It was funny though because when thedomains.com announced the sedo weekly sale figures I had already flipped the domain again and everyone thought that I had sold it for $2,600........

I would hold on the that 5,000 until you know exactly what to buy with it. Maybe buy a few xxx domains to get started so u have some experience. But do your homework before you buy them. Maybe find a more experienced domainer to consult with and give u advice. I wasted a lot of money on hand reg and i personally don't think it's a good idea to spend a lot of money on domains at first. Get a few good Quality domains. Try to sell them and learn as much as you can while doing so.

I'm pretty sure you can get a LLL with bad letters some where under 5000 like zqx.com or something along those lines.

I agree with the above about getting an LLL.com but you exponential increase your potential future profit by every $1K for quality if that's a possible investment.

Just keep the money and forget about domains.

would appreciate if you let me know about lll.com for 5k or less

Also to the OP consider buying a website that makes money tht you can invest and make it make some more. Sites like flippa lists sites like that (obviously you must really educate yourself first on the ins and outs).

Do not under estimate these type of sites, especially those that come with an affiliate program and offer something unique.

You shouldn't invest in something you know little or next to nothing about... To save you the time, you might as well just throw your money out the window...

Before splashing out the cash, take the time out to study the world of domains. Judging by your profile, you have been a member for sometime but with minimal activity.. In saying that, reconnect with people, see whats hot and whats not and all the other dimensions there are to domaining or no matter what other field you are thinking of entering in.

Its best to judge for yourself where to invest your money, especially an amount of $5k.. I personally wouldn't invest $5k into something that someone I have known for a couple of days through a forum has advised me too.

Think wisely.

I do agree with comment above, keep that money and forget domaining.
For that money you've had you can get domains but not knowledge. You can get LLL.com for below 5k but if you don't have negotiation skills maybe you only get 10% profit or loss for your long-term investment.
The point is not the money. Knowledge is the first thing you must looking.

I would buy a handful of quality .com's with that money. If you go the LLL.com route, you stand to make what, a couple grand maybe (unless you really luck out or find a killer deal)? Is that really worth having $5,000 tied up for who knows how long? If I spent $5,000 on some aftermarket purchases / hand regs I would expect to make at least $15,000-20,000+.

But of course it depends on your situation, skills, goals, etc. Are LLL.com's a good investment? Sure, if you're thinking long-term and the money would otherwise just be sitting in the bank. But can you do better / make more money faster? Absolutely.

I would say just take your time, be active on here and you can always get a good deal. Checkout G.D, Sedo, Flippa, Freemarket, Namejet. You should atleast go through two thousand domain names per day if you really want a great deal.

buy higher end names over low quality (hand reg's)

you may be better off getting a nice name (brandable / dictionary) and develop it into a site or business.

Intriguing statement, can you give your reasons for offering it?

My personal opinion is that this is not an easy business, or at least not as easy as it seems.

In this business, knowledge, contacts and sixth sense is the most important, good domains you can always find, but ask yourself if you can sell them and you have a profit from it.

It is very easy to spend 5k and make a nice portfolio of domains, but as I said; Can you sell them with profit, this is one of the most important questions that need to ask yourself.

Good luck, hope to see you soon in the business :)

First learn as much as posible then buy. If you dont have vision for the future with domain then you probably waste your money.

That name isnt worth $30. I wouldn't pay $3 for that.

Don't waste your money on junk. Your $5k will shrink before you know it and you'll be left with crap to sell.
