What is the best way to invest that money? Would you buy up some LLLL.com's? or would it be better to spend it on developing a good name that you already have? Thanks for any advice

I would dig for treasure. Hunt for a good find. And I dont mean just hitting up the forums or drop markets. I would focus on a subject matter you enjoy, and try to buy premium domain names in that particular field. This way you can always develop after you acquire, and because its a subject matter you enjoy - it wont seem like work.

Just my 2 cents.

send out lowballs on CVCV. Unlike LLL.coms, it does surprisingly work with CVCV.

lol that sounds funny send out lowball offers. Thats probably not a bad idea though, might get some good deals out there somewhere. Thanks reece and spade for the advice. I really want to develop a site to the farthest extent I can and to make it pretty big, its just so hard doing that process. I guess you gotta start small then work your way to make it big

New tech trends and geos would be where I'd put my money.

Before you go on a buying frenzy, make sure you know everything there's is about domaining first. Read everything there is and watch the auction prices. Then once you have the game down packed go slowly and hunt down the golden treasures. Play the game right and you'll win everytime.

Just my 3 cents ...

I would say you buy something with 20% of your money first. I consider 20% of that money may be wasted because you are just learning. If you wait, you may miss the opportunities, this field is changing fast.

I would also advise you to read a lot, the forums, the blogs etc.

Then I would invest $250 - $300 for the first 3 months, try to resell them for profit, or market it to end users, and then draw the conclusions yourself and invest the other money.

Get an account with a premium expired domain service, and use their research data to select some good names dropping at Namejet. Buy one.

I would say buy a developed domain and make it better. Reason I say this is because if you do it correctly you can quickly make back your investment and then reinvest with more knowledge unlike buying an undeveloped domain and waiting for a sale or slowly developing a site. That's what I would do if I had that money.

whoa, I'm not a virgin to this domain business. I am by no means a pro either. I was asking to see what other people would go about using this amount of money. This isn't a deal where I'm goin in blind and have no idea what to do. Just thought I would state this as some comments in here make it seem like I just found out what a domain name was yesterday. I'm not trying to be rude by saying this I'm just stating..

We do get a LOT of people, who just found out about domaining, who want to invest large amounts of money the moment they get here. You might do OK in the Stock Market that way (if you find a reasonably honest broker or buy no-load index funds) but you cannot do that here. So if people have made assumptions that is why. No insult intended, I am sure.

For pure domaining (buy and hold) the easiest and one of the most profitable segments is LLLL.coms. The market is new so there are pools of names that are undervalued, relative to the others. I think the entire LLLL.com market has a long way to go.

So you see there are many many ways to make money in domaining, the right one(s) are what fits for you.

Agreed, this is great advice. After developing lots of sites I've come round to this line of thought too. Developing on a subject you like is like taking a holiday, the rest is just work.

Unless you're a parking pro, IMHO I think developing beats pure domaining. Domaining you can get rich but you gotta keep working. Developing there is the chance to sit on some assets and go travel europe or ride bikes or whatever.

B-)

Reece, I never thought I'd hear you encourage lowballing

HI

I would buy 1-2 very popular domain names and develop them.

A domain that just sold on snapnames for $500 was FuelInjected.com

It has many results for the term Fuel Injected in google and is a great keyword phrase..

Developed it would have been a great income maker I am sure

Thanks
Tom

I would take $2,000 and spend the first $500 and Pay a seasoned and proven domainer to chat on the phone and swap a couple emails with. Then take that advice and spend the remaining $1,500 on what I learned. B-)

Nice take! How many seasoned domainers do you think would be takers?

I know of several that would do it, but how many newbies have sent an email and offered somebody $500 to give them some advice? Probably None, but maybe they should.
