Some of you may have noticed that I've been absent in chat recently. On Friday night, hurricane Ike hit Houston. Most of us lost power. Being rather distant from central Houston, my neighborhood has not yet had the power restored. We may need to endure another few painful days without access to the wonderful internet. Luckily there's not much damage to the house, although some of the neighbors weren't so lucky. Waking up Saturday morning to find shingles scattered all over the yard was rather surprising. My cell phone died early Sunday morning, which was a painful awakening - cell phones don't charge without power. Surprising, right? Roads are blocked by fallen trees, most stores are closed, and the lack of A/C isn't helping anyone.

On a lighter note, would any of you be kind enough to say hi to the chat regulars on my behalf?

Regards,

-Matt

The storm is over. It passed by Saturday afternoon. We're still stuck without power, so I'm using my cell phone to access the net until it dies again. Once it dies I'll need to walk a few blocks to a neighbor's house to borrow his a/c adapter for the car so that I can plug in my wall chrager with the engine running. Long process, but the only option at the moment.

Thanks for the support. Power is still off, but I managed to locate an adapter to use to charge my phone. I'm back online (barely) for the time being. I'll keep everyone updated. Luckily, most of the datacenters here have backup power options, so most of the websites hosted in TX should still be online. I'm heading out to locate some food soon. Eating canned food and chips for days is rather tiring.

I'm not sure what your referring to. We're still stuck without power. It may be another week or more before they turn the power back on in this part of Houston. The inability to sit in front of a working computer is driving me crazy. I'm not going to complain about the lack of traffic lights or normal water. I'm usually multitasking, but it's hard to burn so much time with nothing to do.
