Hurricane Sandy...

My hubby and I are in the direct projected track of Hurricane Sandy (Pennsylvania).

It could be a repeat of Hurricane Agnes (1972), with lots of flooding and high winds. Our house, fortunately, is not in flood area, but it is expected that millions will lose power.

We never got groceries after England, so our freezer is pretty spare right now, which is a good thing.

We'll spend tomorrow getting ready for the storm, filling water jugs and buying non-perishables. It is expected that we will lose power for days.

I just hope that we will still be able to cast our votes on November 6. No early voting in Pennsylvania.

Anyone else in the path of Randy Sandy?

Maybe we'll get lucky and she will turn out to sea...

Power still out here. Ups couldn't deliver my generator because of the storm so managing with ice, less than optimal # of batteries an iPhone.

But at least we're not underwater, like the poor folks on the coast and along the river :(.

Tree damage here is mind boggling. My town is a maze of downed trees and power lines. Big trees uprooted taking big swaths of sidewalk with them. Two large downed trees around the corner from me.

@Ms Domainer - scary night was an understatement! Wind was gusting near 70mph - being surrounded by trees, that doesn't give you a warm fuzzy feeling. One gust was so strong it felt like my roof was gonna blow off! But all ok- just a lot of cleanup.

Anyone hear from njsurfer?

Glad to see you are okay, despite your scary night.

Inland Pennsylvania folks got off pretty light, I think, although there was some serious small-stream flooding that drove people out of their homes.

Maybe you'll see Gov. Chris Christie and Pres. Barack Obama walking hand and hand, surveying the storm damage.

Too bad we couldn't have seen such bipartisan behavior throughout this campaign.

This storm has shown what is really important.

Still here :)

We got hit HARD. Still no power anywhere in my town.

Thankfully the most important things are fine (wife and kids).

Other then that, two large trees down in my yard and the neighborhood looks like a bomb went off.

It's a very sad situation around here. Sandy hit our shore line very hard, and alot of people lost everything.

The ocean met the inlet a mile down the road from my house and literally destroyed all in it's path.

Keep everyone in your thoughts. It's getting cold at night.

@Johname. Thanks :)

My thoughts are with you; I'm glad you and your loved ones are okay.

I'm sorry that this storm has done so much damage to your area.

I'm hoping that FEMA and other aid organizations can get help to you and your neighbors expeditiously.

Please keep safe!

So glad you're OK! I've seen the photos and videos and gotten reports from friends from down there - the devastation is just awful :( :(. Lots of towns I know so well totally destroyed :(.

We got power back yesterday. PSE&G seems to be the best power company around here when it comes to fixing outages, but I'm also sure its easier to make repairs when they don't have to contend with flooding. They can get right to work without waiting for the water to recede.

Now the issue is shortages - especially gas. The few stations that are open have huge lines and there's no guarantee there'll be any gas left by the time you get to the head of the line. Some stations are rationing the amount you can get, some won't fill gas cans... or they have a separate walk-up line for that. Police are monitoring the lines here, some places fights have broken out because of people trying to cut in line. Ah - human nature at its best :(!

One local supermarket is open (they never lost power) and insanely busy - as of yesterday afternoon fresh produce was almost completely wiped out. Not sure if it's because people bought it all or they aren't getting normal deliveries yet.

It IS getting cold! Anyone out of the area with power you can stay with? My friends who live in Neptune are coming up to stay with her mother for a while.

Stay safe!

PS - I can't believe they haven't cancelled the NYC marathon this Sunday!!! The generators they're using for the MEDIA could imo be much better used for the areas hardest hit. Like on Staten Island (with a lot of home loss, flooding and a growing list of fatalities :() , where the race starts.

My brother also got it back yesterday too. He is up in the Baskin Ridge area.

Still no power here. It might be a while.

Yes this is a major problem here. I had to drive an hour to get gas. Luckily I had some connections to get my truck filled up with out the lines. The Wawa at the Great Adventure exit had a line that was at least a mile long stretching down Rt 537. It was an unreal scene.

The unfortunate part is that this was just a glimpse of the panic that people get during disaster situations.

Imagine a global situation?? Makes you think.....

My house now has power and we are very thankful.

Please keep all others in your thoughts. There are many that have lost all.

This is a video shot a couple miles from my house: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdmZ-qIXS1Y"]Mantoloking, NJ, Hurricane Sandy destruction aerials, filmed 10/31/12 - YouTube[/ame]

I know a lot of folks who still have no power. Going on a full week now.

:(.

The odd-even rule and gradual returning of power seems to have shortened the gas lines somewhat, but it's still bad up here.

(For those outside the area or who weren't around in the 70's, they instituted a temporary law where cars can only get gas every other day as determined by the last digit in their license plate. Odd numbers on odd-numbered days, even numbers on even-numbered days. This doesn't make gas more available, but it more-or-less cuts the lines and wait times in half.)

My big concern now is a huge tree on my property. It is a very old oak tree, it was forked and cabled for stability. The fork pointing AWAY from my house broke off during the storm. Leaving ... the side leaning TOWARDS my house, without the support of its buddy! All the tree services have their hands full, and I suspect they're charging premium rates these days :(.

My moms house is now under construction to fix the flood damage in basement and first floor.
Water was a few inches on 1st floor so all the furniture and carpet and hardwood floors are trash.
Everything in basement and garage is garbage, my mom lost her minivan to flood damage as well as my brothers friends car is toast. Parents have been at a hotel since last Monday.

I have been at my girlfriends where I have been mostly staying anyway,
No power here still due to 2 down power lines on the dead end block
And still that big tree in addition to those poles are blocking my car and the top half of the block from exiting the block.

Sandy has messed things up bigtime. Every house in my moms neighborhood is like that with the floods and a ton of "garbage" now on front lawns and cars "total loss"

Have not seen long beach(down the block) yet, that and Atlantic city I can only imagine!!!
