ST. LOUIS - Energizer Inc. on Thursday introduced portable devices that will allow travelers to charge most cell phones, iPods and gaming devices without plugging into the wall.
Tony Mazzola, Energizer‘s product technical support manager, cited a consumer research study showing 20 percent of cell phone users lose power at least once a week. That‘s due in part to the growing demands and uses of cell phones, which now take pictures, receive e-mail and play music and videos.
The charger supplies immediate power to the cell phone — some phones with completely spent batteries can be used within 30 seconds of activating the charger, Energizer said. Cell phones with more involved multimedia applications may take several minutes to power up.
The other device, the Energi to Go Power Pack, comes in a version for audio such as Apple‘s iPod, Nano and Mini, and for gaming systems that include PlayStation Portable, Game Boy, Advance and Nintendo DS. Each is packaged with four e2 AA Lithium batteries and sells for $29.99.
