How would you guide a new domainer in 3 words?

Domaining is one of those journeys where real lessons come from experience, not just tutorials.
If you are to give a beginner just three words of advice, what would they be?

Mine will be: Learn. Patience. Discipline.
Sometimes the shortest lessons carry the most value. I’d love to hear what three words guided you, or what you wish someone had told you early on.

Quality Over Quantity.

Every domain costs the same to renew. Whether it's trash or treasure, it's ten bucks a year — choose wisely.

Research before buying
Check Extension Numbers
Check Domains Age
Buy Sellable Domains
How is someone going to know a domain is unsellable? I ask this because so many of the idiot domain names listed on X/Twitter & occasionally Namepros that have supposedly sold seem unsellable.

For me, it all comes down to three words — learn, wait, and adapt.

Domaining rewards those who stay curious, patient, and flexible with the market changes.

Do NOT handreg!
This is the truth, the domain names I have sold so far are all auctioned, and I have not sold a single manually registered domain. :xf.eek:

Every domain was a "handreg" at some point, however most weren't regged when there were 160 million .com taken.

It is not like amazing domains are just sitting out there to reg on a consistent basis. The pickings are slim.

Unless it is some emerging market, or specific combo like GEOs, there is not much available.

Even when a new market emerges, most of the top quality domains in that field have been registered for years or even decades.

With that said handregs can still be decent, but you really have to know what you are doing to turn it into a profitable venture.

In general though, it is also easier to scan existing domain lists than come up with domains to register out of thin air.

In fact, there is another word, that is, "waiting", as long as you have a high-quality product in your hand. Just like now. Like AI, ten years have created a new outlet.

Rick Schwartz said he first acquired .com's (back in the beginning of time) because he wanted to have them reserved in case he needed them for a future project. I heard the same thing from an early .ai investor.

It can be difficult to predict the future. Even if you know where things will head technologically, it can be difficult to know what lingo society will adopt. An example of this can be seen in the early days of mobile devices. Initially, it wasn't clear whether tablets would be called "tablets" or "slates." And although they seemed revolutionary at the time, they actually aren't super popular or valuable nowadays. Similar linguistic ambiguity exists today for phrases such as "superintelligence." Maybe society will adopt this term. Maybe not.

Do NOT handreg!
I'm one of the new domainers, till now all my 7 sold domain names were hand-reg.
So, I think this cannot be an infinite rule.

If the name needs to be explained for buyers, do not buy it.

The most interesting tips are: by the numbers, and price them right
