How to take a site from PR 7 down to PR ZERO

I hadn't done much with the site really. It was a generic term of sorts, and it had been parked for about 3 or years on my own bit of webspace.

A couple of months I decided to do something with it. And I was surprised to see it had a Google Page Rank of 7 out of 10.

I made the site into a forum, the theme of the site had nothing to do with the domain name, and almost overnight the Page Rank went down to 0.

Now if I had taken a site from PR0 to PR7 overnight I could have written an e-book about it and made some money :) However I done the complete opposite. There a lesson to be learnt here, though I'm not sure what it was, and it cost me a fair bit too as far as PR is concerned. :D

I heard that changing NS servers makes some domains lose PR.

Thats really strange that the PR changed so quickly. Are you talking about toolbar pagerank, or actual pagerank? I know actual pagerank can change daily, but i dont think toolbar pagerank changes more than once every several months.

If its toolbar pagerank that changed, i can only guess that it has something to do with changing nameservers as vip-ip said since there was a global toolbar PR update fairly recently.

Yes, it's toolbar pagerank.

I did change servers, in terms of webhosting. Though the account I had the nameserver set up on remained the same, BUT... it's kind of a mess, but this may have contributed as well...

For one of my sites I have webhosting with this particular webhost service. They throw in a 'free' domain name (which you're paying for I guess, but still, it's advertised as being free).

I had registered a domain name (www.asciibabes.com) before going with that particular web host and let it remain as it was. They got me the 'free' domain name of www.tourettessyndrome.org and I parked it at asciibabes.com/blog. However I never used it.

Then I had them aim it at another bit of webhosting I had. I was unaware of the pagerank though. But only had a 'coming soon' page. It should be noted that it had a link to a Tourettes Syndrome site that was highly place when doing a google search.

Then a few months ago I had it redirected again, this time to a new webhost with the intention of making it into a site for TS sufferers and their families.

However in marketing and promoting the site I didn't attract my intended audience. Instead I ended up getting a lot of trolls to the site. :o

After they made a mess in the forum over a long weekend when I was away from my computers for 4 days I decided to change the direction of the site. I thought I might as well make the forum open for trolls, troublemakers and other forum mirth makers.

After it kicked off was when I installed the Google toolbar, when I noticed the pagerank: 7/10.

Now that I think of it though, it was just a couple of weeks ago when the pagerank dropped to zero. At that time I got an email from the webhost who had registered the domain name (in my name) and they were changing registrars. ie: transfering from one to another.

So maybe it was the changing of the domain name registrars (the transfer of the domain name) that effected it.

All in all though it's an interesting yarn as to try and figure out what it was that made it plummet the way it did.

The pr was not actually for your domain it was for the site where the domain was parked.

It seemed to have kept the 7/10 for a while but then dropped around the time the domain was transferred, which only a couple of weeks after the sites content/direction had changed.

pr wouldn't stay with the name for 3 years.

Also regarding the outgoing link to the Tourettes Syndrome page does not increase PR. Only incoming links do that otherwise everyone would link to high pr sites.

I'm 100% certain that PageRank was fake anyway. Names don't just develop PR7 for no reason. Because you had it parked somewhere it was showing the PR for the place it was parked at. Pagerank updates are far from instant, so it would display the same PR until the next Google update. Now that you have the domain hosted somewhere it is displaying the true PR for that domain (PR0).

What sites you link to can effect search results though.

I'm wondering what kind of effect ranking high for a search term does to your Page Rank?

At my site asciibabes.com I linked to www.lifestylesofthebitchandfamous.com, four days later when doing a search for "lifestyles of the bitch and famous" asciibabes.com has come up at the top of the search results.

Anyone got any links to articles on PR that they've found to be quality information?
