Hi, I am new to this type of business, and always want to learn more, but I learned that it takes 60 days before I can transfer it to someone correct? What happens if I register a dropped domain? And also, I here a 'free push' what does it mean? Thanks for your help!

You can reg a name and push it to another account at the same registrar/site, the 60 hold thingy is only for transfers between registrars/sites like between NameCheap and GoDaddy.

You can reg a name at GoDaddy and push it to another GoDaddy account within minutes.

Yes, within the 60 days, you'll need to push it to the customer's account.

If they don't have one, or object to a sale saying, "Oh, I'm with [Registrar], just make an account for them and push it there. Then just tell them after 60 days they can transfer it to [Registrar].

If you get enough for a domain, tell them to email you in 60 days, and you'll gladly pay the transfer fee(good way to make a sale)

9 times out of 10, they will forget to email you to pay the transfer -- if they even transfer it at all -- it's amazing how this works to get sales, and how true it is that they forget

When you buy a domain and know you will want to transfer it before 60 days, there is one thing you can do that has worked for me: Before the domain is pushed into your account, have the seller NOT change the contact information and NOT select that the contact information be changed to yours.

Leaving the contact information the same does have a little risk, because the seller could then put in for a transfer and move the domain to another registrar and you would not be able to stop them. UNLESS you change all of the contact emails for the domain. Then they would not easily be able to transfer the domain away from you.

I think Godaddy is the only one that really will try to keep you from transfering the domain (My understanding is that they CAN'T really, and if you call customer support and complain they will let you do it, despite what it says on their site.) but only if you change the "registrant" information including the name and email address. But you CAN change the email address and there should be NO 60-day limit on the transfer.

So, what I do when I am buying a domain and it's going to be pushed to me at Godaddy, I will ask the seller to NOT change the contact information. Then I can change the email addresses for the contacts and transfer the domain away as soon as I want before it has to be renewed at Godaddy.
