question How To Conduct Sale of Newly Reg'd Domains (<60days)?

If I want to sell a domain less than 60days old to a buyer, I must transfer via instant push to their account at the same registrar.

How do I ensure a fair transaction with a buyer - is Escrow.com sensible for this kind of transaction? Their site talks about transfer to their registrar, which isn't viable for new domains.

If you buy or sell domains with no escrow -- how do you ensure fairness / someone not running off with the money or domain? 50% up front / 50% upon completion, or is it pure trust?

BTW I' referring to a direct sale to a buyer, not auction / classified listing.

Thanks.

Depending on the registrar, the 60 days lock can be lifted by the support.

One way to minimize this kind of headaches is to reg domains with registrars that have their own marketplace/landers. Namesilo, Epik, Uniregistry come to mind.

If the price is really low, say <$300, I often times simply trust the buyer and transfer the domain before payment depending on the communication etc.

Thanks nomen. My domains are at Namecheap.

Yeah I've heard good things about Namesilo, and will go with that for future regs.

Has anyone used Escrow.com for these instant push sales? Is that viable?

Not for new regs, it can't!

Thanks nomen. My domains are at Namecheap.
Namecheap also has a marketplace and they charge ~10% or so. Go with that. It's pretty decent!

Yes, it is! Or even Undeveloped is usable. You push to Undeveloped's NC account and they push it further to the buyer! Import the lead on Undeveloped and you'll be charged only 5% commission

Either push or wait the 60 days.

Yeah... Was about to say that I'm not sure if this is possible for new regs because I've never been in the situation but couldn't figure out how to fit it in :)

If your name is registered at Namecheap, then you can sell them on their Marketplace during the 60 day period. They take 10% commission but handle the escrow and transfer. It works very smoothly and fast. I have used it for 31 (almost entirely low value) sales all without any issue at all (edit: in 1 case there was maybe a half day delay, but it did go through). I have also bought a few through the NC Marketplace. Most sales happen almost instantly. One thing to keep in mind is that funds are held for about 5 business days. After that you can move them to your account to buy domains or hosting, but can only transfer out via PayPal after you reach $100 or more. Also, some countries have PayPal payment costs levied by PayPal, I think.

What TLD?

.com?

Verisign doesn't set any "60 days" locks. The same for Neustar and Donuts TLDs.
So the domain is fully transferrable if it is not locked by certain registrar (due to their internal policy).

Only Afilias and CentralNIC TLDs still utilize this archaic lock (WHOIS status: serverTransferProhibited).

That is really interesting @Jurgen Wolf and something I did not know. So when registrars say there is a 60 day limit on everything, they are over simplifying the real situation? Is there a link anywhere to which have lock and which do not. I have been delaying listing all mine until 60 day passed, but it seems for some extensions that not necessary. I learn (at least) something new every day at NPs! Thank you!

Few months ago I sold and transferred .life domain which was ~40 days old.
Because Donuts doesn't lock their TLDs (as mentioned above) and 1and1 policy also doesn't prevent such transfers.

This practice is already deprecated by most registries.
Only Afilias TLDs like .PRO/.org/.info and CentralNIC TLDs like .online/.xyz/.space - are locked for 60 days.

Some registrars are even incompetent about this lock.
They think that it exists... but it is not used since ~Dec'2016...

This lock is optional, it is not mandatory by ICANN regulation.

Actual rules for registrars are here: https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/transfer-policy-2016-06-01-en

3.7 ...The Registrar of Record may deny a transfer request only in the following specific instances:

3.7.5 The transfer was requested within 60 days of the creation date as shown in the registry Whois record for the domain name.

3.7.6 A domain name is within 60 days (or a lesser period to be determined) after being transferred (apart from being transferred back to the original Registrar in cases where both Registrars so agree and/or where a decision in the dispute resolution process so directs). "Transferred" shall only mean that an inter-registrar transfer has occurred in accordance with the procedures of this policy.

As you know, "may" and "must" are different terms.

The same I can say regarding Sedo...

LOL
From my experience today...
@Dynadot (role: the gaining registrar) is NOT able even to initiate the transfer if domain is within 60 days from RegDate.

p.s. Such transfer to @AlpNames (LogicBoxes registrar) was completely finished within 1h.

In many countries PayPal doesn't work in full, only Send operation is allowed.
For example, I can't receive PayPal to my Ukrainian account.

At least 1and1 understand "may" properly... "60 days" reglock is NOT used there.
