Is it ok to put domains less than 2 mos old in an auction? or to list it for Sale?

I understand it is forbidden to transfer a domain to another registrar (for 60days) after the first registration or after the last transfer. Hence, I'm asking the question. Any inputs, specially from someone who is doing this (probably a flipper) is appreciated. :?

Yes,
It is ok.
You could reg a domain right now, and sell it in an hour from now.
You can always push a domain from one account to another within the same Registrar.

So, as long as the buyer has an account at your Registrar,
or crerates an account there, you could push it to their account immediately.

Transferring out of one Registrar to another Registrar immediately...
No, you would have to wait whatever that Registrar says you have to wait.

Even though it's a pain in the a$$, most people will create an account at whatever Registrar your domain is at in order to have that domain in their possession immediately.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for your input the dot stop!
I figured that this will be the case but i'm thinking someone might get mad at me and say "Hey, how come you're selling it when you can't transfer it to my registrar yet?"

Your post encouraged me to go ahead. :)
Thanks again!

In my opinion, itโ€™s OK to sell fresh regs, but in my practice I try to register names at well-known registrars โ€“ Godaddy, Moniker etc. Because many people (especially domainers for sure have accounts there, and if no โ€“ they could create it very simply).
Iโ€™m talking about the importance of the registrar here, cause some time ago I had a problem with one Danish registrar (domain was backordered), where I canโ€™t even change nameservers to Sedo parking without giving them detailed! information about Sedo Company :). I haven't this information. (sound stupid but itโ€™s true).

So be sure, that your registrar donโ€™t have any complicated rules, and everything would be OK.
Good luck :)

I would post a note saying that the domain can only be pushed to them at the same registrar until 60 days have passed. That way any potential buyer is informed. After 60 days you can then delete the information.

I wouldn't sell a domain if the buyer wasn't ready to open an account where the domain is. In my opinion if the buyer wants the domain in another registrar, he should transfer it out himself.

Even if transfer was possible I would never transfer a domain during a sale. It is just illogical. It creates extra risks and I'm not going to fool around a few extra days because of the buyers caprice.

Said that, I also don't buy domains that are not with one of the major registrars. I would ask the seller to transfer the domain to a major registrar first before I buy it. Even if I was the buyer I wouldn't transfer from sellers account at registrar A to my account at registrar B. I think if a transfer between registrars is needed the same person should do the transfer. It is much safer this way.

Thanks for the additional input guys...
Very important points to consider are raised - very valuable for newbies like me.
My sincere Thanks to twomoon, globegenius, sunny055 and Erdinc.

Since the importance of registrars are mentioned... please comment on the registrars I'm using:
*I used to reserve my domains at namecheap - no problems and good support in my opinion.*
*Lately, I'm using netfirms - no problems so far. they're cheaper and has a free privacy.
*I quit using godaddy... they're expensive, no privacy, everything else has to be paid!

**I want to try moniker because lots of domaineers use it, but moniker has no privacy. Is this a big deal?

Thanks guys! :hearts:
