I am starting a hosting company and want to offer a free .com, .net , .org or .info domain with every hosting plan. I wanna be able to register domains just like godaddy , not to ressel them.

To be a reseller, not alot. But to have your own registrar for top TLDs, $1 million up-front.

So according to this, beccoming a domain registrar costs only $2500
No, according to that, you have to have $70,000 sitting in the bank and $6,500 in fees paid to ICANN. You may lose the first $2,500 if they don't approve your first application. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I thought it was a million.

Question, if you do become a domain registrar, how much do you pay for each .com domain registration to Icann?

$6.00 + $0.25 ICANN fee

TBH its pointless for smalltimers to become registrars when they can become a reseller for free.

To add, domain registrars and hosting companies do not mix. The rule of thumb is usually to register domains at one place and then get web hosting from somewhere else.

Two big names in the web hosting industry (HostGator / Micfo) are "simply" eNom resellers.

Yes, agreed...GoDaddy is a prime example...

To the OP: if you really want to run a registrar, being a reseller is a good place
to start. Registerfly and Moniker started out as such before securing their own
registrar accreditation.

And running a registrar in a cutthroat industry while being able to make money
isn't going to be easy. You'll need an "edge" somehow, unless you're targetting
a specific market.

This is probably the most overasked forum on this and many other forums. Before asking, search the forums and search Google!

what does it mean do i earn the $6 or does it go to ICANN too like the $0.25?

No, the 0.25 is for ICAN processing fees.

If you sell the domain for $7.25, you get $1 profit.
